Melissa Ingram Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2016.
Melissa Isabelle Ingram, 59, of Overland Park, KS passed into rest on May 16, 2016 after a four-month battle with liver cancer.

Born March 8 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to the late James and Alice Ingram, Melissa spent some of her formative years in London and Thailand where her father was an Economics professor. After graduating Chapel Hill High School in 1975, she attended the University of North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art. Later, she earned a Master's Degree in Recreation Administration, also at UNC. At mental health and chronic care facilities in New Jersey and New York, Melissa honed her skills in therapeutic recreation and eventually became Director of Therapeutic Recreation Services at Goldwater Memorial Hospital in New York City. In the early 1990s, she completed a program at the Swedish Massage Institute and practiced as a licensed Massage Therapist in NY. Around this time she also began studying energy healing with Barbara Brennan and Dr. Robert Jaffe.

After moving to Kansas in 1992 with her husband Mike, she developed a thriving energy healing practice. She was a strong influence in the healing community in Kansas City and gained a reputation there as a first rate healer as well as an excellent teacher of energy. Melissa believed it was important for her clients to develop their own self- healing awareness, abilities, and practices. She continued to expand and complement her energy work with spiritual pursuits, including visits to the Casa de Dom Inacio in Brazil; and as a devotee of Amma the Hugging Saint.
In addition to her work as a healer, Melissa was a respected, award-winning artist in Kansas City. At an early age she was drawn to art of all forms. As a child she loved to draw cartoon figures, mostly animals, and could capture expressions and emotions on these imaginary figures. Her art evolved over time, and she produced paintings and sculptures with varied style, color, and design.

Melissa is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael Grogan; her sisters Deborah Ingram and Susan Ingram, both of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and her four nephews, Carleton, Erik, David and Michael.

Melissa had a smile that lit up the room, and a laugh that was infectious. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at McGilley Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 26, at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Melissa's memory are invited to contribute to Amma's charitable organization in North America, the M.A. Center. Information can be found at: http://amma.org/donations.

Thinking of you Melissa... Have a wonderful journey ()

December 28, 2016

Mike,
I somehow missed this!!! I am stunned and so saddened. Just before I found this, I was lovingly tucking a few things into a basket Melissa gave me in thanks for driving her to Philomene's studio, it is a treasure, as is a scarf she gave me. I adored her and loved our shared time together. She was so brave and true. We lost track of each other to time, as happens with people we meet along the way, but she was never out of my heart. I hope you are healing and thriving. I know she was so devoted to you, and you to her.
Very Best,
Jane Booth

Melissa was a tremendous light to. I first met Melissa sitting across the table from her singing at the Casa in Brazil. We connected again at a John of God event in Toronto and Melissa decided that at some time we were twins sharing a crib together. We got together when she came to New Jersey for treatment. She decided that she would join my meditation group and participated long distance by phone. I will deeply miss her beautiful spirit.

Dear Michael, Thank you for contacting me. May her soul rest in deep Peace and may she be a Light to all of us on the other side of the veil. I knew Melissa from the Casa de Dom Inacio in Brazil. She was working very hard to make the best life she could here on this plane. She was so sensitive deeply intuitive, and in service. Blessings on her Soul

I met Melissa at an energy healing class in the early 1990's. We connected immediately as Pisces sometimes do. And, since we lived just blocks apart in NYC, I saw her regularly for energy healing. I looked forward to those spirit-healing sessions which were mystical, joyful, and awe inspiring. Even her cat participated! After she moved, we continued our journeys [though sporadically] by phone. They were equally powerful and inspiring. I miss her now but I know she will find a way to connect, and we will laugh again. Sending love and healing to Mike and her family. Rosalie (New York City)

I am saddened to hear of Melissa's passing. Melissa helped me understand myself and to look for who I was meant to be. I am eternally grateful for the spirit she shared. I remember a few funny sessions. There was a device that was to be activated- for some odd reason it did not. After a few minutes Melissa returned- she asked what had occurred and I shared with her the vision of the surgeon and nurses standing by ready to their work but they could not- was so funny. I believe we both had a good giggle. I remember another session where one of her cats decided they needed to help me heal- hilarious as I thought to interact with them and all I knew was how to interact with dogs- giggle again. I remember her trip to healing places - my dog Rowdy was sick so I sent his picture- he lived to be 13 1/2 and was thriving beyond my expectations until his passing. I am not sure what to say of a woman who made such a difference in my life other than to share some stories. I wish healing spirits to Mike and her family- including her cats and any other animals she was graced with which my memory forgets. Big Healing Hugs, Jill Stuart
