Melissa Lima Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2024.
Melissa Marie Lima, 48, of McKinney, died April 19, 2024 in a Dallas hospital after a 13 month battle with glioblastoma. Melissa was born on August 8, 1975 to Ronald and Janis Clark in Arlington, Texas. She graduated from the University of North Texas, where she continued her love of learning and developed a passion for teaching. She married Thomas Lima in 2000 and together they had two children, Benjamin and Isabella.

Melissa loved her family fiercely and lived life with endless energy and joy. Whether she was swing dancing with Tom, volunteering at her children's schools or participating in a half marathon, she did it with a smile on her face and cheer in her voice. She enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for friends and family and took pride in her meticulously matched pleats and button front shirts. Her children's carefully curated and home sewn wardrobes were unparalleled as she valued the art and time it took to make a creation with love.

Melissa was a dedicated educator of Math and Design at Imagine International Academy of North Texas, where she guided students in both logical and creative thinking. In 2020, she was one of 30 teachers selected nationwide to participate in the National Air and Space Museum's Teacher Innovator Institute. For the next 4 years, she collaborated with fellow educators to inspire students' hearts and minds.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 10 am at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Rd, Plano, TX. Following the service, friends and family are invited to a reception from 12-4 pm to share memories and celebrate Melissa's life.

Swing dancing. I remember when Tom and Melissa met and I think we all knew they were meant to be together. Melissa was a shining light, her energy and passion shown through in everything she did. She took over at my wedding reception and made sure everything ran smoothly. She was there as a guest and didn't have to do anything, but we all know that's not who she was. It was an honor to be your friend, and the world is a better place because you were in it.
