MELVIN HOWARD (BUD) BOOTH Bud Booth of Brownwood, Texas passed away April 5, 2007 at the age of 95 years. A native of Hamilton, Ohio, he graduated from Miami of Ohio University then received a masters degree in social work from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the Pacific as a Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII. Bud began working for the YMCA during high school. He was transferred from the Akron, Ohio YMCA to the downtown Houston YMCA in 1952, from which he retired as Executive Secretary in 1977 after more than 40 years with the YMCA. He continued to be active in various civic and charitable organizations throughout his life. He and his wife Lib enjoyed many years of retirement living in April Sound in Montgomery, Texas and Galveston and the Black Hills of South Dakota. After her death in 1991 he moved to the Forum in the Woodlands and then to Brownwood, Texas to be near his son Scott. He is proceeded in death by wife Elizabeth (Lib) King Booth, daughter Sally Batres, brother Cullen and sister Mildred Kohankie. Dearly loved and greatly missed, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law LeeAnne and Ralph Kleeberger of Perrysburg, Ohio, daughter Barbara Sheffield of April Sound in Montgomery, Texas, son-in-law Enrique Batres of Missouri City, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Scott and Gale of Mullin, Texas; also his grandchildren Steven, Kathy, Kristy, Richard, Jennifer, and Carla; his great-grandchildren Erin, Mary, Michael, Stefanie, Rachel, Cameron, Kyle, Nicholas, Lynnette, and Julia Lynn; and one great-great-grandchild David Michael; also survived by nephews Dale Peters and Allen Booth. Private memorial services were held by the family at an earlier date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to: Young Men's Christian Association 1600 Louisiana Houston, Texas 77002.
