Melvin Hicks II

Melvin Hicks II, born June 8th, 1950 in South Bend,IN to Melvin Hicks and Gabriela Hicks (Oszmien). He was a resident of Cobb county Georgia for almost 30 years. He died at home on July 8, 2023 from complications due to Leukemia and Parkinson's. He married the love of his life, Peggy Meeks Hicks on May 14, 1977 in South Bend, IN. They shared 46 years of marriage. He had five daughters, 4 of which he shared DNA.

Mel is survived by his wife Peggy of Kennesaw, GA. His beloved sister Geri Neal (Dave Weddell) of Wilson, NC. Bonus Daughter Larree Ann Lund Kraft (Randy) of Lusk,WY. Daughters Chandra (Dathan Camacho) of Centerton, AR . Jessica (Nat Falcone) of Kennesaw, GA. Anndrea (Jake Salloum) of North Augusta, SC, Breanna (Steve Smith) of Marietta, Ga. Mel is also survived by 9 grandchildren Karsten, Gabi/Blazee, Jude, Jace, SadieGrace, Annika, Zander, Trevor and Adeline. Bonus Grands, Evan, Mayanna, PJ, Malia, Quinn & Sayuri. And many other extended family members.

Mel was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served just over a year in Cuba at Guantanamo Bay in 1970 and Puerto Rico. He studied at the Defensive Language Institute in Maryland, Texas and the NSA at Ft. Meade. He was Honorably Discharged in 1973.

Our beloved Dad/Gpa was truly a Jack of all trades. If it had a motor, he read about it and was able to rebuild it in a matter of hours. He enjoyed tinkering, quiet time when he could find it and reading a good book.

The Hicks family spent many summers at The Cottage on Minnewaukan Lake and Christmas at the Hicks house in South Bend on Harrison Ave. before Grama & Grampa Hicks moved to Roswell, GA with his sister Geri & her husband Charlie and Sunday Dinners became the norm.

He wasn't a perfect dad or husband but he was ours. No offer from the circus or Gypsies was ever enough to sell him. The family will hold a private graveside service in November at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton,Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
