**Melvin Johnson**

*March 2, 1942 - February 21, 2025*

Melvin Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather, veteran, and educator, passed away on February 21, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on March 2, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, Melvin was the son of Ira and Mildred (Milton) Johnson. He lived a rich and varied life, leaving behind a legacy of service, creativity, and love for his family and community.

Melvin graduated from Burbank High School and went on to earn a degree in music education from St. Mary's University. His passion for music and teaching shaped much of his career. He proudly served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army with the First Armored Division, known as "Old Ironsides." After his military service, Melvin dedicated himself to education, serving as the band director at Pleasanton Junior High and assistant band director at the high school. Later in his career, he transitioned into technology as a computer programmer and eventually retired from the medical systems department at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston.

An avid outdoorsman and craftsman, Melvin enjoyed rock hunting, jewelry making, gardening, golfing, and fishing in his spare time. He was also a member of the American Legion, reflecting his commitment to his fellow veterans.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Heather Mosier, son-in-law Gary Mosier, granddaughter Victoria Mosier and her son, Levi (Melvin's great-grandson), grandson Colton Mosier, sister Eva Kindley, and brother Leroy Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mildred (Milton) Johnson, sister-in-law Joyce Johnson, brother-in-law Don Kindley, niece Tracey Johnson, and his cherished granddaughter Samantha Lois.

Melvin's warmth, talents, and dedication to those around him will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the lives he touched through his music, service, and love.

Melvin was a leader in High School but accomplished this with a soft touch, always fun, and spent time with our group at Alamo Heights Pool in the summer. He was steadfast with pictures of his flowers on our Burbank FB page, and we all stayed connected. He will be missed by many. May his family have peace knowing he was respected and loved by many of his friends.

I´m so sorry to hear of Melvin´s passing. He and I worked together for many, many years supporting the Army Medical Command in several different capacities. He kept our working atmosphere entertaining and I appreciated his steadiness throughout the years. He´ll be missed but remembered with gratitude and a smile.
