He was born Feb. 23, 1931 in Kelly Station to Jacob and Clara (Boyd) Shearer. Mr. Shearer retired from Pennex in Oakmont. He also worked at Schenley Distillery for many years. A Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War. His memberships included the Ford City Eagles and Schenley American Legion. A lifelong resident of the area, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and going to the mountains to look at the elk. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Shearer of Clarington and Melvin Shearer Jr. of Shelocta; two daughters, Deanna Shearer of Florida and Mrs. Edwin (Cheryl) Hepler of Ford City; nine grandchildren; his companion, Joann Davis of Rosston; and two sisters, Rose Terry of Logansport and Judy Shearer of Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor (Fennell) Shearer, who died in 1995; three brothers, Clarence, Lester and Merle; and two sisters, Mary and Irene. SHEARER -- Friends of Melvin "Foxy" Shearer, 72, of Ford City RD3, who died April 25, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Mantini Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dean McKee officiating. Burial will be in Homewood Baptist Cemetery, Logansport. Arrangements by Mantini.
