Melvin Marion Williams, Sr was born in Chicago, IL on Wednesday, January 12, 1949 to the
union of Marion and Helen Williams.
In his high school yearbook, you would read that he wanted to become a businessman. He
made it happen by performing successfully in the insurance business for 45 years. He touched
and influenced hundreds of clients in the greater Chicagoland area and was licensed in multiple
states as a general agent with over twenty insurance companies. No one will forget his
presence in their lives as their insurance man. He thanked God for his success and was very
bold in speaking the Scriptures to anyone who would listen.
Melvin Sr. is preceded in death by his parents: Helen and Marion Williams; brother, Phillip; sisters: Sylvia and Gloria.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Jackie; children: Jamara (Alex), Jamel, Melvin Jr.,
Jackie, and Michail; one brother, Larry Williams; four sisters: Shirley (Bennie) Calloway, Joyce
Leonard, JoAnn (Edward Cornell) Hughes and Arlene Williams; grandchildren: Nefair, Zaniyah,
Zamir and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

So sorry for your loss. Melvin was my insurance agent in 2020. I only spoke to him via phone. It was pleasant to know him for that short period of time.

I met Melvin at McKinley Upper Grade Center many many years ago. He did in life what he said he would do; became a businessman, married a beautiful woman (Jackie) and had lovely kids. Boy you did that! If there’s a heaven l have no doubt you’re there .. REST IN PEACE

I first met Melvin when we would hang around the A&P store on Madison and Ashland helping people with their groceries earning money. By the time that we were teenagers,Melvin was working IN THE A&P as a cashier. He recommended me for a job and they hired me too. As far as I know, myself, Melvin, and one other guy were the only male cashiers working for A&P at that time.I think about the times we had going to the “Broadway strand”, “Times Square”,”st.Phillips”,and wherever else a set was happening.
