Melvyn A. Sr. "Mel"
Mel passed away August 27, 2015, at age 71, after a long fight with lung disease. He was born to the late Robert and Cleo Douglas of Toledo, Ohio. He left Toledo in 1960 to join the Marine Corps and see the world. He made a short stop back to marry a young girl that promised to follow and wait for him, and she did for 53 years. Mel served in the Marine Corps from 1960-1981, entering as a private and retiring as CWO3. He was awarded the bronze star and purple heart while in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He retired after 21 years and moved to Florida to work for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office for 15 years. In 2008, he retired to Winterville, GA.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Sell Douglas; daughter, Wendy (Sydney) Winchell; son, Melvyn (Denise) Douglas Jr.; brothers, Dennis Douglas of Toledo and George Douglas of California, and grandchildren, Dana, Melisa, and Charlie.
