Meredith Anne Porter

The family of Meredith Anne Porter announces with great sadness that she passed away in early January, 2025, at the age of 91 years. A native of Ohio, Meredith spent her formative years in the town of Brecksville. She was the daughter of Violet Howe Moeller and Theodore F. Moeller and the younger sister of Carol Moeller Holland. Meredith and her sister Carol had many fond memories of their childhood and a special appreciation for the environment in which they lived. After graduating from Brecksville High School, Meredith went on to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where she majored in Education and was active in campus life as a member of the Tri Delta sorority. She was an outstanding student and graduated with honors. Post graduation from University of Miami, Meredith won a scholarship to the University of Oslo, Norway and then went on to graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. During her graduate studies she taught 3rd grade in one of the Bay Area elementary schools. While she was attending Berkeley, she met her husband of 57 years, Lyman W. Porter. Meredith and Lyman moved to Newport Beach, California in 1967 when Dr. Porter began his tenure at the University of California, Irvine, eventually becoming Dean of the Graduate School of Management, or the Merage School of Business as it is now known. Meredith was active in community life in Newport Beach and Irvine. She was president of the UCI women's organization, Town and Gown and served on the board of the Newport Beach Public Library. In later years, Meredith and Lyman traveled all over the world, journeying to every continent with the exception of Antarctica. They spent time living in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, France and Denmark.

Meredith was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished the value of kindness in one's life and was devoted to the ideals of a good education. She will be dearly missed. Meredith is survived by her daughter, Anne Meredith Porter Leisure (Marr), her son, William L. Porter (Michelle), and grandchildren, John Lyman Leisure, Charles Porter Leisure, Sarah E. Porter and William L. Porter, Jr. Donations may be made to the UCI Libraries or the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation.
