MERL STEIMER Obituary
Age 67, of West Mifflin, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home. The son of the late Glenn E. and Reath C. Steimer, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas P. Steimer, and is survived by his siblings, Reath (Steimer) Risaliti, Glenn (Michele) Steimer, Lee (Charlotte) Steimer, Neil (Moreth) Steimer, Lise (Steimer) and Richard Conte, and Susan (Steimer) and Robert Barbee; sister-in-law, Colleen Steimer; as well as several aunts and uncles, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Merl was multi-talented, with degrees in mathematics, computer science, and civil engineering. Having earned his Professional Engineer certification, Merl worked with various engineering and construction firms, primarily in bridge design, and authored several articles for engineering publications. He was quite proud to have begun his construction career as a journeyman ironworker and was a lifetime member of Local No. 3 of the Ironworkers Union. He was meticulous in most things he set out to do, such as building museum-quality wooden ship models with authentic knots and rigging. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30, from 2-8 p.m., at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, on 301 Curry Hollow Road, 15236, with a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, at Jefferson Memorial. I was very saddened to hear of Merl's passing. He was a very special cousin with great knowledge that he was willing to share with all.
We had many great discussions on several subjects and Merl will be missed by all in his large family.

We didn't know Merl well, we only moved into the same apartment building in September but he and my husband had many long conversations sitting out back. He was a very nice man and we are so very sorry for your loss.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Merl especially so soon after the loss of his brother Tommy. I will remember Merl's visits to Geneva on the Lake, and how he enjoyed riding his bike there.
Merl was always very generous to the Steimer reunion fund and it was much appreciated.
We will all find comfort knowing he is now with his parents, many other family members and friends.
