Merle Jensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 7 to Dec. 8, 2004.
JENSEN, MERLE ANN (Harvey), 79, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully December 4, 2004. She was born on October 2, 1925 in Lake Worth, FL. A graduate of Emory University, School of Nursing (R.N.), she was in the first graduating class of Cadet Nurses in 1946. She married her beloved Victor, an Air Engineer in 1947, in Lake Worth. In 1949, they moved to Miami, FL where they lived for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and William Harvey, brother William Harvey and sister Mary Venn, all of Lake Worth, FL. She was a member of South Miami Lutheran Church, the Nurse Associates (formerly of Baptist Hospital), The Vizcayans, and Laureate Beta Kappa Sorority. Many years before, she was a member of the Dig and Dream Garden Club and the Early Birds bowling league at Bowl-O- Mat Lanes. Merle was a woman of character and a very gracious lady, one who loved to spend time with her family and take walks, with them, along the beach at Sanibel Island. She had a great sense of humor and always spoke her mind. She enjoyed volunteer work, which included the Peanut Butter Gang at South Miami Lutheran Church. They made sandwiches for the needy. She retired from Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1985. Her strength and determination amazed us all. She will be greatly missed by her family and those whose lives she touched throughout her 79 years. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Victor Jensen; her daughters Christine Jensen and Victoria Casabo (Manuel) and her son Michael (Dana); her grandchildren, Yolanda (Casabo) Jaramillo, Mark Casabo, Nicole and Lauren Jensen; and her great grandchildren Ashlie and Devin Jaramillo. Services to be held at South Miami Lutheran Church, 7190 Sunset Drive, Miami, FL on Wednesday, December 8th. Family will visit with friends at 10:00 AM. Service to begin at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Woodlawn South, 11655 SW 117th Avenue, Miami, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to South Miami Lutheran Church. Funeral services handled by Florida Funeral Home. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.herald.com/obituaries.

I was very saddened to hear about Merle. I have a lot of great memories growing up next door to the Jensens. I will say that Christine, Vicky & Mike's mom was one of the coolest. Thanks for all the great times and memories, Merle. You will be missed by many, I am sure.

We remember your family while we were residents of Miami and members of SMLC. May the memories you shared and the love of your family and friends bring your comfort during your bereavement.

I was saddened to hear from Helen Spruill that we no longer had Merel with us. She was such a dear and some of my best memeories at Emory include Merle. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.
