Michael Aubuchon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2024.
Michael "Mike" Joseph Aubuchon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father, teacher, and friend. His journey, marked by resilience and profound faith, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

Born on January 6, 1946, in Carbondale, IL, to Joseph Louis and Anna Merle, Mike's formative years were spent in Thousand Oaks and Venice Beach, CA. He developed a deep love of sports early on, spending his childhood summers watching the Dallas Cowboys summer training camp just down the street from his home. This laid the foundation for a lifelong Aubuchon tradition of rooting for the Cowboys. As Mike grew, so did his involvement in athletics. He excelled as a standout shortstop on the Venice Beach High School baseball team. Following graduation, he continued his involvement in sports by coaching the Venice girls' softball team.

In 1970, Mike married the love of his life, Cheryl. Throughout their remarkable 54-year marriage, Mike's profound adoration for his dearest "C" knew no bounds. To witness their enduring love and commitment was a privilege beyond measure, a rare treasure of steadfast devotion.

Mike managed Beverly Fabrics stores throughout California before answering a calling to pursue higher education at Bethany Bible College, where he graduated with honors, earning an M.A. in Education. During this time, he received a life-changing diagnosis that would soon confine him to a wheelchair. Despite this formidable obstacle, his spirit remained unyielding, his prayers fervent, and his love for life unwavering. His faith in God never faltered. Mike's strength in facing his disability each day served as an inspiration to all who crossed his path.

In 1979, Mike began teaching at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, CA, where he would leave an enduring legacy over a distinguished 35-year tenure. As a teacher of World History, Government, and Economics, and later as the Department Chair of History, Mike also ran the Associated Student Body and coached the Mock Trial team to numerous county and statewide victories. Affectionately referred to as Mr. A, he embodied the ethos of lifelong learning, always encouraging his students to inquire, explore, and seek knowledge. He held high expectations for his students, firmly believing in their capabilities, as he challenged them to question their assumptions and approach complex problems with courage and humility. Esteemed by students and colleagues alike, his work will continue to resonate for generations, as the countless lives he touched echo his lessons of humor, compassion, and curiosity.

Family held the most cherished place in Mike's life. He was an extraordinary father, imparting invaluable wisdom to his children and grandchildren. He showed them what it meant to be a hero in the everyday moments. Mike is survived by his devoted wife Cheryl; daughters Natalie, Kristin, Erin, and Melissa; sister Lucinda; and grandchildren Mekaila, Jacob, Bailey, Ricky, Elisabeth, Christopher, Isaac, Jaxon, and Geneva. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Isabelle in 2007 and son Joseph in 2014.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Mike Aubuchon at Monte Vista Christian School on February 24, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Don Price Performing Arts Chapel - 2 School Way, Watsonville, CA 95076. The family extends a heartfelt welcome to all who wish to honor Mr. A.

As we gather in Mike's memory, let us carry forward his legacy of faith, love, and service. May we find solace knowing that he now rests in eternal peace, embraced by the loving arms of our Lord.

Mr. A was my MV high school government and economics teacher. Always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude. So much confidence and spirit. He taught the importance of a handshake. He loved talking about Joe Montana and the 49ers back I the 80s. He was always at the sporting events. He taught us the importance of what you stand behind in speech and debate. He encouraged us to write our congressmen and stay involved in our government and educate yourselves in this arena. Such a wealth of knowledge and a giant of a man. Grateful to have known him and be mentored by him.

Mike was my mentor and confident as I came to MVC. From a history teacher and basketball coach to a Vp and then principal. Mike was one of my go to people. I owe a lot for Mike´s encouragement and support for my years at MVC. He will live in my memory for ever. I look forward to our reunion in Heaven
