MICHAEL BARRY Obituary
Comfortably on Thursday, February 2, 2012 in the company of his family. He was born August 25, 1922 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Edward and Nora (Joyce) Barry. Beloved husband of 63 years to Olga (Stipetich) Barry; father of the Honorable Nora Barry Fischer (Dr. Donald Fischer), Linda "Dee" Cumpston, Margaret "Meg" Barry, Michael J. Barry (Chris), Mary Catherine "Kay" Barry (John Leathers), Amy Barry (Stephen Franckhauser), Beth Barry and Joyce Barry (Ben Bobbitt); grandfather of Erin Fischer Acton, Lauren Schultz (Peter), Adam Barry Fischer (Laura), Major Meghan Cumpston, Ryan Cumpston (fianceé Holly Kaiser), Evan Cumpston, Anna Barry, Ellen Barry, Grace Barry, McKenna Adkins, and Luke Franckhauser; great-grandfather of Lyla Fischer; brother of Anna Mae Ocepek, Norene Coyne, Theresa Schall (Gregg) and the late Patrick Barry (Jeanne Pegher Barry, survives) and Margaret Barry McParland; also best friend of the late John Duffy. A proud member of "America's Greatest Generation." He served our country during WWII as a military policeman in the states guarding German P.O.W., and retired General Foreman of Masonry US Steel Homestead works where he worked for 42 years. He was a longtime resident of McMurray, PA and a member of St. Benedict The Abbott Church. "Red" was a dedicated and loving husband, traveling daily to be with his bride, Olga, at Sunrise. He was a great father and was proud of having all eight of his children graduate from college, many with advanced degrees. He loved to garden in the summer, read voraciously, and did crossword puzzles and handiwork year round. "Red" was an avid Steeler and Notre Dame fan. He was a very proud graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, class of 1940, and will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Special thanks to Dr. Mally for his support over the years. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 15317, Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 10 a.m. at St. Benedict the Abbot Church. I went to college with one of you Barrys. I enjoyed hearing stories of your family including that of your dad trudging up the dorm stairs to move my college friend into her room - this after he had a few health problems previously. This - a small sample of obvious devotion to his family I'm sure. My friend shared other stories of your funny, loving and close knit family. I'm sure these bonds along with the devotion your dad's example provides will see you through this very sad time.

On hearing of Red,s death the word devotion immediately came to mind. His unfailing devotion through the years and in particular in these last years was obvious to all of us who knew them and to all the Caregivers at Sunrise who witnessed that devotion daily.
His obituary marked him as a proud member of "America's Finest Generation" Indeed. Many will say that we will never see the likes of them again. We think that is not so. The values Red embraced. - love of family, of Church, of country-- passed on to children, grandchildren, neighbors and all who knew and loved him will live on in their lives

Mike and family - I am saddened to hear of your loss. Your father was a truly wonderful man, and I thank him for the positive impact he had on my life. I smile when I look back at the many times we spent with Red - the Bomb ( and many others), Mouse Man, Newts lake, Steeler and Pirate games, rides to and from Pitt, Iron City beers with Red in the basement, and the many projects around the house. To my dear Aunt Olga and cousins, I will never forget the wonderful times at your house growing up - the wonderful smells from Aunt Olga's kitchen and the warm crackling fire roaring in the basement.
