Michael Norton Blewett, Sr

Michael N. Blewett, Sr, of Cary, NC passed away at home on July 14, 2025. Born a third-generation Californian in Los Angeles, CA on May 24, 1937, to William F. Blewett and Helene N. Blewett, he was a descendant of the notable Blewett athletic family of the city's early years. Mike is preceded in death by his parents and older brother William F. Blewett, Jr.

Mike attended Dorsey High School in Los Angeles and was Student Body President, an honor roll student and all-around athlete. He played baseball, football and ran track, but his primary focus was baseball. On athletic scholarship to the University of Southern California, he was a member of the Trojan baseball team and of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration. It was at USC that Mike met his greatest love, Laura Hancock.

As third baseman for the 1958 USC Trojans baseball team, Mike competed in the NCAA College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, under the leadership of renowned Coach Rod Dedeaux. In the championship game against Missouri, with the score tied at 7-7 in the bottom of the 12th inning, the Trojans had already overcome a three-run deficit. With two outs, Mike delivered a single to right field, batting-in the winning run and securing an 8-7 CWS victory for USC.

After a short stretch in the minor leagues, Mike married his college sweetheart, Laura, began a family, and had a successful lifelong career in Sales and Marketing. A devoted husband, a cherished father and beloved friend, he was admired for his integrity, work ethic, and outgoing personality. Mike impacted the lives of many over his lifetime through his passion for baseball- coaching young players and authoring a book, The Fun-da-mentals of Baseball. Mike and Laura spent many decades together traveling the world, enjoying the company of friends, watching sports of all kinds, planting beautiful gardens, music and oil painting, and he treasured spending time with his family.

Mike is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laura; his daughter, Diane Blewett Burger (Kurt Burger); his son, Mike Blewett, Jr. (Melani Timmons); and three granddaughters, Christine Burger, Katherine Burger (Bryan Gilliam), and Janie Blewett.

At Mike's request, a private family memorial will be held.
