In Loving Memory

Michael Joe Burnett

April 2, 1960 - May 6, 2023

Mike Burnett, age 63, of Dallas, TX died peacefully surrounded by family on May 6, 2023 after a long, brave battle with pancreatic cancer and is finally at rest. He was born on April 2, 1960 in Roswell, NM to Bobbie Joe and Mary Darlene (Wood) Burnett.

Mike had a successful career in commercial real estate for over 35 years, starting at Trammell Crow in 1987, eventually moving to Stream Realty in 2000, where he celebrated over 22 years of service. He was well respected by his team and colleagues. Throughout his career, he formed many strong relationships and friendships that left a lasting impact on everyone.

To know Mike, was to know his fierce loyalty, wonderful spirit and sense of humor.

Mike enjoyed taking road trips with his wife, Jill, throughout the US and vacations to Hawaii, Belize, Italy, and numerous beaches with his grandchildren, Asher and Lyla. He enjoyed playing golf, remodeling projects, making home improvements, and woodworking in his shop.

Being "Pop-pop" came naturally. His grandkids loved his tickles, knock-knock jokes, and fishing excursions. He proudly attended every practice and every soccer, baseball, and basketball game, as well as, every school program and dance recital.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, though they were together for 43 years, Jill Francesca Burnett, his son Jeremy Keith Martin (Rachel) and grandchildren Asher Michael Martin and Lyla Romayne Martin of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his father John Long, siblings Lisa MaGee, Rena Boyles, Keith Long, Toni Burnett, Tricia Smith, Sherri Long, Melanie Howard (Shawn). His in-laws Gary Hardy (Suzanne), Lyn Weaver (Jeff), Tony Hardy (Karen), Bob Hardy, Janice Hardy, Jeanette Duerksen, Richard Ashley (Janet), Perry LaManna and Dave Smith, as well as, many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents, sisters Terri LaManna and Vicki Long, and brother Allen Long. He will also be missed by many great friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, 1404 Old Gate Lane, Dallas, TX 75218. Following the service please join us for a light lunch and drinks to share memories and further celebrate his life.

Memorial contributions may be made to PanCAN at pancan.org (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

I was Mike and Jill's neighbor in 1987, and I will always remember how funny and kind Mike was. He was the best sort of neighbor, always joking around but also helping wherever he could. I am deeply sorry and saddened by his passing, and will never forget him. God rest his soul.

I have known and worked with Mike for 33 years in downtown Dallas. He was my boss for several of those years. He was definitely one of the Good Guys in our trade. He was a good and fair person to be around and to work for. He will be missed but always remembered.
God Bless,
Jim Griswold

The commercial real estate industry in Dallas, and across the nation, lost one of the most knowledgeable men in our real estate world. Mike was very smart, nice, compassionate and a hard working man. Underneath his tough exterior, Mike was a very empathetic and soft hearted man. He was a unique problem solver and there was not much that Mike couldn't tackle on his own. He deeply loved Jill and Jeremy, and he was most proud of being a grandfather, often showing weekly pictures of his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.

Jill, Jeremy, Rachel & the rest of the family, I am heartbroken to hear of Mike´s passing. We had texted a while back & he shared with me. He was an amazing friend back to our Sachse days. I will never forget what a great friend he was to Steve, and I know in my heart they have met again in God´s presence. My love and prayers are with you always.

Jill and family,
So sorry for your loss. Mike was a wonderful person. We have very nice memories from your visits to Shenandoah and Frackville Pa. Also from the Marone family reunions at Knobles park. He was such a friendly and nice man and we enjoyed our conversations with him. He will dearly be missed by all of us in Pennsylvania. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
