Michael A. Carricato

Michael A. Carricato, 91, of Vandergrift, passed peacefully in his sleep to be with our Lord Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022. Born April 22, 1931, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Michael P. and Blanche (Spagnolo) Carricato. Michael was a 1949 graduate of Vandergrift High School and lived in Vandergrift most of his life. He served our country as a sergeant with the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Michael was employed at NUMEC, later Babcox & Wilcox, in the health safety department in Parks Township, retiring at 72 years old. He also volunteered as a paramedic with the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service. He was a faithful member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, serving in numerous ministries which brought him great joy. Michael loved spending time with his wife, daughter and son-in-law along with their two German Shepherds. He and his wife of 42 years enjoyed polka dances at various church festivals, serving at their own church festivals, selling renewed items at flea markets and relaxing on bus tours with friends. He loved sharing meals with his family, especially his daughter and son-in-law's homemade spaghetti and meat sauce, lasagna, pizza, pasta e fagioli, or the Italian Christmas Eve foods. Michael was an avid sports fan, and loved basketball, baseball and football, especially the Pitt Panthers. He played on the Dapper Dan softball team as a young adult. Michael looked forward to a difficult crossword puzzle booklet, usually completing all pages. He proudly provided for his daughter's numerous years of dance and twirling training, traveling to shows and competitions, as well as her various musical instrumental lessons. Michael was always known as a kind man who was easy-going. He will be deeply missed by his family. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Hranica) Carricato, who passed away Dec. 25, 2004; and his brother, Martin Carricato. Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, 303 Franklin St., Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Private entombment will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Arrangements have been entrusted to the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., Vandergrift.
