MICHAEL CIVETTI Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2024.
Michael J. Civetti 83 passed away on September 10, 2024 at his home in Dedham.

Michael was born in Newton to Pasquale and Mary H. Civetti in February 1941. He married Mary E. Benedetti on November 10, 1979. He was an Army Veteran and member of Post 440.

Michael was known for his compassionate nature, giving spirit and witty sense of humor. Michael was always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of comfort with a joke thrown in. He was a jokester, always laughing or just watching his surroundings with a smile on his face.

He worked as a union worker for Standard Linen for many years until they closed. He then worked as a Courier for Smithkline Beecham and Milton Laboratories. When he left for work he always said: "I have to go save some lives" then smiled. In between, he managed Sudbury Bowladrome until its closing.

Mike always loved bowling. He said it was the only exercise he needed. With his many appearances on channel 27 and channel 5 bowling shows, when bowling was the "All American pastime", he won and lost with grace and integrity. You would always see him at Bowling State Tournaments in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

After he retired, he still entered tournaments but found a home at Ron's Gourmet Ice Cream and 20th Century Bowing in Hyde Park in numerous bowling leagues. He was a fixture at Ron's, literally. His mural hangs on the wall when you enter. Big Mike, as he was affectionately called, would always lend his ear to anyone outside the alleys with a coffee, cigarette, smile and new joke.

So when you visit Ron's Ice Cream and 20th Century Bowling, remember Big Mike for his smile, humor, wit, friendship and love of bowling. Give him a Big High 5!

Big Mike is preceded in death by his wife Mary, daughter Tina Johnson (late Mark Johnson) of NH, grandchildren Mike of NH and Sabrena of CO, Brother Richard and Elizabeth Civetti of Johnston RI, and 3 generations of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Chateau Restaurant (bottom function room), Route 1 in Norwood on October 5th at 12:00-4:00. The family would love for you to share your favorite memories or funny moments. Please text or call 781-640-2635 by September 27, 2024 and leave the number of friends and family attending.
