Graveside services for Michael Eugene Cobb, 68, of White Oak, will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, at Old White Oak Cemetery, with Pastor Michael L. Heim officiating. Mr. Cobb died Thursday at his home in White Oak.
Mr. Cobb was born August 14, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. Michael graduated from White Oak High School in 1957. Michael was a four-sport letterman at White Oak. He was a member of the Class-A State Championship basketball team in 1957 and was named to the All State Team. He participated in the 1957 state track meet. He was a member of the 1957 Class-A Regional Baseball Championship Team. He participated in the Coaches All Star games in both football and basketball. Michael earned numerous All-District, All-East Texas and All-State honors, including being named to the All-State football and basketball teams. He was also awarded the Gregg County Good Sportsmanship Award in 1957.
Michael attended Baylor University on a football scholarship and played for two years before injury ended his career. Mr. Cobb loved watching all the sporting events he could possibly watch in a day's time, and was an avid sports fan.
He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cobb; and brothers, Bobby Cobb and Jimmy Cobb.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred Cobb of White Oak; brother, Tommy Cobb of White Oak; nieces, Christy Cobb of Houston and Tiffany Preiss of Las Vegas, Nevada; two great-nieces and one great- nephew; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Honorary pallbearers will include Jimmy Tappan, Gary Leidecker, Dave Jackson, Tom McCraven, Jack Hall and Charles Bailey.
Donations may be made to White Oak Baptist Church, 117 S. White Oak Rd., White Oak, TX 75693.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today, June 15, 2008, at Welch Funeral Home.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. You know how much the Cobb family has meant to me over the years and I know how special Mike was to you both. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope to see you on my next visit to East Texas. Mike will be missed by all who knew him.

I met and worked with Mike in the 70's at Axelson. Although it has been many years since we have seen each other, I still count him as a friend and he will be missed.
My condolences to his Mother and family. My he rest in Peace.
