Michael Colvin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 19, 2024.
Michael Jerome Colvin, age 62, of Cleveland, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Yeshua on April 8, 2024.

Michael was born on August 19, 1961, in Green County, Alabama, to the late Jessie and Catherine (nee: Burton) Colvin. He was the third of seven children. Michael was baptized in Alabama at an early age and in 1992, he joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lorain, Ohio.

In 1980, Michael graduated from Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He went on to have a successful career at Specialty Products, a subsidiary of General Mills Corporation, where he worked as a machine operator for 37 dedicated years until his retirement in 2017.

Outside of his professional life, Michael had a passion for tennis and was an avid player and instructor. He also practiced Taekwondo for many years and held a black belt certification. Cooking was another one of his joys, and he delighted in preparing dishes like greens, Shepherds Pie, macaroni and cheese, lasagna, and banana pudding. Known for his impeccable style and attention to detail, Michael always presented himself with confidence and grace, making a lasting impression wherever he went. It was not only his attire that set him apart--it was the manner in which he carried himself.

Michael was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by four blessed children: Ebony Colvin (Edward Kalinaukas), VaLaury Colvin, Donovan Colvin, and Tia Colvin; two grandchildren, Alayna Elise Camara and Lyana Bintou Camara; three sisters: Betty Anne Harris (Tommy-deceased), of Cleveland, Ohio, Marvella Foltz (Stan) of Newport News, Virginia, and Katherine Yarbrought (Jerry-deceased) of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Douglas Colvin and Eric Colvin, both from Cleveland, Ohio, and a host of family members and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse James Colvin, Jr. (Yvette).

We just learned about Mike's passing. He was my husband's roommate in their early 20's and they worked together for many many years beginning in the early eighties. We are so sad to hear this news and will be praying for his family.

the last few years of hanging out at the roc, Mike was one of few nicest people. He was the cool guy, dressed nice and had a good tennis game. It gonna be sad not seeing him at the roc. RIP Mike

Mike was one of the most wonderful people I ever encountered at the Rockefeller Tennis Courts (The Rock)! He was a wonderful tennis player, and a real devotee to the sport and his craft. He loved my baking, and it was my pleasure to share with him. He was peaceful, slow to anger, and generally speaking noncontroversial and of an even temperament. I am proud to have had his a my friend for as long as I did. My times at The Rock will never be the same now that he is returned to glory.

What reminds me of Mike was him playing tennis , his smile, laugh and the watches he wore. I will miss his kindness and talk of how much he loved his family.
