HOFFMAN ESTATES - Michael Bartholomew DeStasio, 60, of Hoffman Estates, died Monday, June 18, 2007, at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates.

He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in Philadelphia.

Mr. DeStasio was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. He was a certified scuba diver and a private pilot, horseman and many other things. He held a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering. Mr. DeStasio was an international businessman, traveling around the world.

He is survived by his wife of almost 32 years, Lois (Walker); two sisters, Mary (Jim) Zito of St. Charles and Pat (Jim) Gargano; a brother, Bartholomew (Beth) DeStasio of Appleton, Wis.; his nieces and nephews, Antonia Zito, 2nd Lt. A. J. Zito, Ally Gargano, Christina Gargano, James Gargano, Matt DeStasio, David DeStasio, Jo DeStasio and Tom DeStasio Jr.; and his grandfather, Bill Beckerdite of Elizabethtown, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bartholomew and Josephine DeStasio; a brother, Thomas; and a stepmother, Nancy Beckerdite.

The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main St., St. Charles. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, St. Charles.
