To the Doane Family,
I was Michael's chemistry teacher at Alta High and was out on maternity leave when the accident occurred. i just returned yesterday to find out the news and wanted to let you know that Michael was one of the finest young men I have ever known. He was such a fun student and he always came to say hello to me before or after school.
I am extremely saddened by the news and my heart goes out to your family. I wish i could have attended the funeral.
I will never forget Michael.

Dear Doane Family,
Having taught Michael, Matthew and now Morgan, my heart was deeply saddened by the news of Michael's passing. I remember him fondly as one of my favorite students (along with his brothers...). Michael was especially kind in helping me with my computer needs and problems. His expertise came into play many times and he was always low-key and unpretentious in sharing his skills. He was generous and kind, (sometimes rare qualities in a 7th grade boy) -- a delightful young man to teach and to know. I'm sorry for your pain and your deep loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Doane Family,
My interaction with Michael has been brief but memorable. Last year I was the camp nurse for Youth Conference, and had the pleasure of watching Michael shine in many situations. He was most determined to solve logistical problems and take the lead in team work situations. I knew from that experience he was (and is) a born leader.
Michael has a great work to do and I'm certain he will be just as determined in his assignments in heaven. May you all find comfort in the knowledge of his eternal progression. We admittedly enjoyed a laugh together this evening as we looked through many pictures of the kids growing up and playing together. Michael was always on roller blades and was the first to take a fall as he volunteered to try out the new jumps that were built in the neighborhood.
