Michael Dumoulin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2025.
Michael Roy Dumoulin, 77, passed away on January 31, 2025, in Vancouver, Washington. A man of deep conviction and wide-ranging experiences, Michael lived a life marked by service, exploration, and enduring connections.

Born on November 27, 1947, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Michael was the son of the late Albert W. Dumoulin, Sr. and Jeanne R. Dumoulin. He was also the grandson of the late Francois X. Roy and Alice Roy, and the late Alexander Dumoulin and Malvina Dumoulin. His early education began at St. Louis de France and St. Mathieu grammar schools. In 1965, he graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton.

Following high school, Michael entered the novitiate of the Brothers of Holy Cross in Valatie, New York. He later continued his studies at Moreau Hall in Easton, Massachusetts before enrolling at Stonehill College. Though he left the brotherhood after his freshman year, he remained at Stonehill and graduated in 1970. During this formative period, Michael cultivated many lifelong friendships that he cherished and maintained throughout his life.

After college, Michael served in the United States Navy for two years. His post-military life took him to California where he began a new chapter as a chef at a country club. This move marked the beginning of his West Coast journey. Eventually settling in Seattle, Washington, Michael joined PACCAR Inc., where his fluency in French led to international assignments in Brussels, Belgium and Zimbabwe. Later in his career, he studied Spanish to support PACCAR's operations in South America.

Michael's professional life was as dynamic as it was diverse. After retiring from PACCAR, he remained active through consulting work before founding his own insurance agency-a venture he ran successfully until it was tragically lost to fire. Undeterred by setbacks and always eager to contribute meaningfully, Michael was working part-time unloading cargo planes at Portland International Airport at the time of his passing.

Michael is survived by his beloved husband of 23 years, John Seesholtz; brothers Albert W. Jr., Gerard A. and his wife Margie, David J. and his wife Claire; sisters Alice Marie Levesque and her husband Paul, Christine M. Phenix and her husband Leo; as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends-both on the East Coast where he often visited and among his cherished West Coast "family."

A man of strong spiritual grounding and compassion for others, Michael was deeply committed to social justice causes throughout his life. He was especially active within the LGBTQ communities of Seattle and Portland, advocating for marginalized individuals with passion and integrity.

A Funeral Mass was held on March 7, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon. Burial followed on March 8 at HolyRood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington.

A memorial service will be held on April 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM at St. Louis de France Church, located at 56 Buffinton St., Swansea, Massachusetts.

Michael Roy Dumoulin will be remembered for the depth of his convictions, the breadth of his experiences across continents and cultures, and the warmth with which he touched so many lives. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Donations in Michael's name can be made to: Class of 1970 Memorial Scholarship, Stonehill College, 320 Washington St. Easton, MA 02357. Michael was on the 1970 Scholarship Committee.
