Longmeadow
Michael Jon Frankel, 49 of Longmeadow died Sunday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the area. Michael was a graduate of Longmeadow High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and received his law degree from NYU School of Law. He was a partner in the law firm Frankel Devlin LLC. Michael was the youngest chairman of the Jewish Geriatric Services and was currently serving on several boards and committee's at JGS. He was also a member of Temple Beth El and was a past board member. He was predeceased by his mother Edna (Price) Frankel who died in 1992. Michael leaves his wife Donna (Migden) Frankel, two daughters; Emma and Joely, his father Seymour Frankel, two sisters; Robin (Daniel) Gurlitz and Nancy (Jim Pelletier) Frankel Pelletier, nephews; Jesse and Ben and a niece Eden. The funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Temple Beth El, 979 Dickinson St., Springfield with burial in Beth El Cemetery. Shiva will be Tuesday thru Thursday at 7 Cambridge Circle, Longmeadow, with evening services at 7 PM. I first met Michael on the play ground at Pine Knoll Swim Club in Longmeadow playing in the baby pools and play ground and Pine Knoll Swim Club. He came marching up proudly, showing off his "outie" belly button, and suffice to say, he made an unforgettable impression. I re-met him at Blueberry Hill school, where I was privileged to sit near Michael and his then comedic companion, Greg Slater. They provided a great deal entertainment in a good natured, fun way, and to my knowledge were never hurtful or mean to anyone. Even then Michael was especially kind and sensitive to others. I saw Michael's obit in the paper the day after my Dad's funeral, and my heart broke for you all: Seymor,Donna, Joely, Emma and all of Michael's family. I am so sorry, and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Donna, Emma, Joely and all of Michael's family, I just read all of the memorials posted for Mike and what a tribute to such a great man. I met Mike some 15 years ago and I can't remember whether it was due to work or at Crestview. I do know though that we became good personal friends very quickly and through Michael I made many other friends. He was truly a caring individual and the love he had for his family and friends had no boundaries. I will miss our golfing, our impromptu lunches, and the occasional cigar and drink at your house where we sat and talked for hours.
Michael will be remembered forever by so many people that he touched!

Seymour & family, my brother Tim told me about Michael's untimely passing and his funeral today. Words cannot express how very sorry I am. Michael Frankel was a great man: a wonderful father, husband, family man, friend, and lawyer. I learned many things from him and am grateful for the time that we spent together. He was a vibrant, energetic person and was blessed to have lived a happy life. He was extremely proud of his daughters, loved his wife beyond words, and had a beautiful home. He told me many times that his needs were simple and that he had everything he ever needed and wanted right within the walls of his home. Mike was just a great guy. My memory of goes back several years when he was just a kid and a heck of an athlete. His best quality was that of an all around camper and person. We are so shocked and deeply saddened, as I know you are too. Michael was a friend since grade school, LHS, Bauercrest and to this day. He was someone with the kindest and most gentle personality and great sense of humor. For some reason, he had a fondness for my baseball glove (since 8th grade) and he would borrow it occasionally at camp alumni weekends (30 years later). When I see my baseball glove, I usually think of Michael -- now I will only do so. Miriam and I are so saddened and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
