Michael Georgio Obituary

Published by Santa Clarita Valley Signal from Jul. 17 to Jul. 20, 2009.
March 1956-July 2009

Michael E. Georgio passed away peacefully at his home in Valencia at the age of 53. The outpouring of love and support for his family has been overwhelming and is greatly appreciated. He is survived by his loving daughters Christina (31), Meghan (22), Ryann (17), son-in-law Jack Katchikian, grandson Anthony (9 months) and brothers Ron and Jon Georgio. He was pre-ceded in death by his parents Louis and Judy Georgio and his brother Greggory.

Far and away, Michael's biggest joy was simply spending time with his daughters and his very large, extended family. He was "Uncle Mike" to many nieces and nephews and was loved by all his family members, which were always his first priority.

Michael was born in Granada Hills and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He went on to found "Gothic Landscape, Inc." with his mother and, as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, grew the company into the second largest landscape construction company in the United States. He is widely recognized as an icon in the landscape industry throughout the entire Southwest and was beloved by his employees at the company.

Michael was also an avid boat captain. He navigated the waters of Canada, California and Mexico aboard his vessel the "Bella Vita" and always included his family and friends as his guests. He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Cabo San Lucas" when he traveled south of the border.

Michael had a generosity of spirit that affected all who came in contact with him. He was a devoted Catholic and shared his blessings with those charities that were near to his heart.

"Michael, we miss you already, but we know we will all be together again."

Dearest Giorgio Family,
There are not adequate words to express how sorry we are for the pain and loss that you are feeling. We wanted to let you know that you have our greatest sympathy and that our hearts are truly saddened. It was an honor and pleasure to know Mike; we will remember him as being charismatic and a natural leader. He expected the best in himself and others. He made us all better for it. The loss of Mike will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him.
We pray that God will comfort and strengthen you at this time.

To all the Georgio and Gothic Landscape Family, I only Mike through words spoken by one of the Gothic Family members and he truly sounded like one heck of a man .. personable, ethical, knew how to treat his employees like family, wasn't afraid to pick up a shovel and lend a helping hand, truly a person any person would love to have in their life. I can only think that Heaven must have added one special Angel when they called Mike home. May your thoughts and memories comfort you during this difficult time. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
