Ron Gilliland
January 13, 2024
I remember cousin Michael Gilliland when our family visited your family in Columbus OH in the 1950s and 1960s, your family being you and your brother Larry and your parents Frank (my uncle) and Marcella (my aunt). Our family was me (cousin Ron Gilliland) and my brother Sherwyn (your cousin) and my parents Paul and Mildred (your uncle and aunt). I remember Michael as rather quiet and shy, your older brother Larry more forward. We all went on picnics together with grandma Gilliland (Alice Mabel Gilliland) in the Columbus area when our family visited from Calif. (grandpa Reuben Gilliland had passed in 1955). My dad Paul and your dad Frank (brothers) would talk about WW2 stories and what was happening in the Columbus area. The last time I visited you and your wife was in Springfield VA about 2008 when your mother Marcella was still living (she still called me "Ronnie"). Your father provided me with some family photos and information which helped me start some genealogy work. I remember you worked as an engineer in some capacity with the US govt (DOD, I think). God bless you, Michael, rest in peace. Wishing your daughter Cathy well in her life. Your cousin, Ron Gilliland

We miss Mike more than words can say. He was the best of friends and kindness itself. Rest in Peace, Michael.

The kind of friend who is still around for you after 50 years. Talking to Mike in 2023 was just as easy as talking to him in 1971. The kind of friend who would be there for you, without question.
We talked books and poetry. So many good memories from the early 1970´s that I wish I could talk about, but it hurts right now.

We had a lot of fun at Eastmoor Jr & Sr High Schools growing up. Then years later when you gave me a place to stay when I was transferred to Washington National Airport from 2010-2015. We made up for some time lost over the years. I introduced you to the Studebaker Car Clubs and you did the same for me to the Northern Virginia Corvette Club which continued on after I returned home to Columbus when I retired. You, Roger Davis and I shared a lot over the years. We will truly miss your partner, you were the best.
