Michael J. Gunning

Michael J. Gunning, 89, of the Nativity section of Scranton, and Moosic Lakes, died Monday at home. He and his wife, the former Mary Boland, would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on Thursday.

Born in Scranton, son of the late James and Mary O'Malley Gunning, he was a member of St. John Neumann Parish, Scranton. A 1941 graduate of Central High School, he also attended the University of Scranton before becoming an account manager with Reuben H. Donnelley for 33 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Moosic Lakes Association and the National Association of Realtors.

Also surviving are two daughters, Dr. Mary Lisa Gunning Meholick and husband, Michael, West Chester; and Dr. Mary Jo Gunning MacGregor and husband, Richard, Lake Waynewood; a sister, Agnes Gunning Dempsey, Naples, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. Eugene Gunning, Newfoundland; four nephews, Kevin, Gene, Sean and Tim Dempsey; and his cousins, the Charles Cleveland family of Scranton.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Friends may call Friday, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The family requests that those attending the funeral proceed directly to the church.
