Michael Alan Hamlin

BANGOR AND MILO - Michael Hamlin of 203 Third Street in Bangor died unexpectedly from natural causes at his home on January 2, 2015. Michael, born on August 13, 1954, was the son of Cedric Hamlin Jr. and Evelyn Doucette Hamlin of Milo.

Michael was a dedicated educator for over thirty- five years with stops at Bonny Eagle High School, the Hyde School in Bath, Central Middle School and most recently, Bangor High School where he taught Math prior to his retirement last August.

Michael was an avid golfer and could be found at Bangor Muni almost daily from early Spring to late Fall. He spent hours perfecting his Hogan like swing; although he never found the perfection he sought, his handicap was in the low single digits which served as a sense of pride and enjoyment for him. He will be missed by his playing partners at Muni, Dick Shaw, Geoff Goodwin, and Steve Godsoe as well as his brothers and Jensen Bissell on the links of Kathadin Country Club in Milo. His presence will be felt each time we stroll down a fairway in the coolness of a light breeze or the warmth of a glorious, summer sunshine.

A native of Milo, as a boy Michael enjoyed the comforts of small town living along with his siblings Peter, Tony, Maria, and Matthew Hamlin. His childhood consisted of playing sports and spending summers at his camp on Schoodic Lake. Water skiing, boating, and swimming in the clear waters of Schoodic were daily occurrences in Michael's youth. An accomplished basketball player, after graduating from Penquis Valley High School, Michael earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Maine in Orono.

Michael, who was predeceased by his father Cedric, will be missed by his nephews Casey and his wife June, Drew Hamlin and nieces Lauren Hamlin, Kate Hamlin and Lindsay Hamlin Hanson and her husband Eric as well as Brooke Hamlin Phinney and her husband James and daughter Alice.

He left behind special sisters-in -law Christine, Denise, Gina, and Jeannine Hamlin as well as extended family members Gerard Turgeon, Troy and Keri Chase and their children Claire, Sophia, and Matthew; Kelsey Chandler and partner Ben Clark, Amanda Thompson and her husband Tyler and son Preston, Ryan and Jill Saucier and daughter Olivia.

Michael's time sailing with Tom Gram and days at Sugarloaf with buddy Greg Landry, were some of his favorite memories. In addition, family friends Jensen and Sheilah Bissell will miss his easy manner and loyal friendship in the years to come. Gabrielle Moulton enjoyed a unique relationship with Michael; she was always in his thoughts.

Michael's love for his mother was a huge part of his life; the burden of losing her loving son will be a constant reminder of the pride and joy he brought to both his mother and father.

Michael also leaves behind several aunts, uncles and cousins from Arizona to Maine.

Michael Hamlin was a kind and gentle soul who was comfortable in his own skin. His intelligence, tolerant attitude, loyalty, and genuine sense of caring made this world a better place. He will be sadly missed by his family and all those who knew him. His leaving leaves a void forever empty.

Funeral services will be held at Lary Funeral Home in Milo on Saturday January 10th at noon. A reception celebrating Michael's life will immediately follow at the Kiwanis Building in Milo. Internment at Milo Evergreen Cemetery will be held in the spring.
