Michael HANSON Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Mar. 20 to Mar. 21, 2018.

HANSON, Michael Jeffrey "Mike"
May 11, 1979 – Calgary, Alberta
March 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with immense sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear sweet son, Michael. Mike was a gentle, kind man… a true inspiration to the family that he loved so much. He battled his relentless disease with courage and dignity, and on March 14, 2018 Mike succumbed to his illness. His heart and soul just ran out of strength. For the eighteen years of his disease, we are beyond grateful that Mike allowed us to be by his side; part of his daily struggles and daily joy. Our family, in grief, has been tremendously comforted by a strong faith in God. We know that our son's suffering is being rewarded in heaven. At Sunday dinner each week, and once a week at breakfast, we never parted company without telling Mike how proud we were of him and how much he was loved. Our love, admiration and respect for Mike will last forever. Mike loved baseball; and in particular, the Toronto Blue Jays. We could always expect a post- game telephone call from him to debrief either the victory or the defeat. Those phone calls will be sorely missed. Mike will remain forever in the hearts of his parents, Rick and Kim, his brother Chris, his sister Shawna and her husband, Curtis (Walper), his most beloved nephew and niece, Jacob and Harlow Walper. He is also survived by his grandparents, Willy and Rita Stinson, Marietta (Micky) Hanson and many caring aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike was predeceased by his uncle, D'Arcy Stinson and his grandfather, Henry Hanson. Our son's life was touched by so many kind and caring people, who assisted him in his journey through life. Thank you, especially, to the amazing staff at Pathways to Housing. Through Pathways, Mike had a home to call his own, something he was particularly proud of. There will be a private, family ceremony celebrating Mike's life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Mike's name may be made directly to the Alex – Pathways to Housing, #101 – 2840 Second Avenue S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2A 7X9, www.thealex.ca or [email protected].

Thinking of you today...
Please say hi to Darcy for me. I know I will find you both when I get there, whenever that is but if you find yourself free that day I would like a tour guide. :)

Dear Rick, Kim, Chris, Shawna & Micky, I'm truly saddened to hear of your loss and pray that God's Grace gives you strength during this difficult time.

Sending you hugs & comforting energy to wrap around your hurting hearts,

your cousin Jane

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

A nephews eyes have gone forever
His smile, his laugh, his face
Where once he stood before us
A lone picture takes his place

Gone to soon a fine young man
From here your place of birth
I cant believe that this is real
That you no longer walk this earth

Reality is, I know its true
but still I cant believe
A fine young man with so much life
Really had to leave

We loved you from your time of birth
We watched you grow and learn
My nephew we shall meet again
When its our time to return.

God Speed Mike, Love your Auntie Lou

I would like to offer my deepest condolences, my heart hurts for you. Mike was a kind soul with a loving heart. I have many fond memories of Mike, from him playing his guitar in elementary school, playing basketball on my driveway, to just sitting on my front steps chatting and getting the occasional "hair cut", which usually ended in his head being shaved.

I know Mike is in a good place now, flying freely with a smile on his face. Although his body is gone, his spirit will live on through the wonderful memories we have, he will always be here. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
