Michael Irwin Obituary
Mike was born in New York City to Patricia McGill Irwin and Frank Joseph Irwin and grew up in the Bronx. He attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine elementary and high school and enjoyed growing up with friends in Devoe Park. Mike worked as a conductor for Metro North Railroad, a job he loved, since he could meet and greet so many people during the course of his day.
Growing up Mike was an avid New York Yankees fan, attending as many games as he could especially as a young boy. He also enjoyed taking his nephews to games and spending the day at Yankee Stadium. Along with the Yankees, Michael loved the music of Bruce Springsteen and attended many of his concerts. Despite Mike's illness he was able to sing along with Bruce's songs, remembering the lyrics as well!
Michael is survived by his beloved daughter Samantha Irwin, his sister Patricia Cooney and husband John, and his nephews Ryan Cooney and Brendan Cooney. Anyone who knew Mike, knew he loved life and strangers were simply friends he had not met yet. Interment will take place privately and a celebration of Mike's life will be held this summer.

Mike was a dear friend of mine for the past 20 yrs. He was best friends with my husband Rich Sperandeo who passed away ten years ago. He was best man at our wedding. Mike was also a good friend of my husband Anthony Mattei who just passed away also on April 3rd. I´m sure the three of them have reunited with our Lord in heaven and are rejoicing being at peace and no longer in pain and suffering. Very sorry to hear such sad news. Mike was one of my dearest friends and I have countless memories of all the fun times we had. Mike a fantastic sense of humor, and always made me laugh. Being his upstairs neighbor for eleven years are some of my fondest memories of growing up. My sincere condolences to his family, my prayers are with you all.

Our hearts are so saddened. Mike was such a kind, gentle soul who touched the heart of everyone that was lucky enough to know him.
Though he faced a long, difficult journey with early onset Alzheimer´s, he did so with a quiet strength and warmth that never faded.
His kindness, his smile, and the love he gave so freely will always be remembered and held so closely in our hearts.
The most beautiful gift that Mike and I were blessed to have is our daughter Samantha. He just adored her with all his heart as dearly as she adored him, and always will. It´s a precious bond that will never be broken.
Rest and sweet peace to a truly beautiful soul. Mike, we will love you always and forever. Our hearts are with you and your heart is always with us.
