COLUMBIA - Services for Michael Gerald Irwin, 20, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel with burial in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery, Elgin. Pallbearers will be Garrett Neverla, Josh Jorden, Mark McGuigan, Stephen McGuigan, Joseph Parks and Ronald Glenn. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 � 8 p.m. at Dunbar�s Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Smyrna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Elgin S.C., 29045. Michael was born June 19, 1987 and died Tuesday, January 1, 2008. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Michael D. and Susan Whittington Irwin, brother to Lauren Elizabeth Irwin and adopted brother to Robert Ross Lathrop, USN, Petty Officer, 2nd Class. He graduated from Spring Valley High School in 2005, where he ran cross country and was treasurer of the Interact Club. Michael joined the Navy and was assigned to the Navy�s Nuclear Program, Goose Creek, S.C. where he graduated as a Petty Officer 3rd Class Machinist Mate. He was honorably discharged in June 2007 and was attending Midlands Technical College and Thomas Edison Institute, where he was studying Nuclear Engineering. Michael attended the contemporary service at N.E. Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed motorcycles and playing the guitar.
