Michael Iversen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2025.
Michael Hewitt Iversen, 81, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on March 30, 1944, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Michael lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and professional excellence.

A graduate of Hebron High School in Hebron, Nebraska, Michael went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and continued lifelong friendships and philanthropy with his Gamma Alpha Chapter brothers. His education laid the foundation for a distinguished career in sales engineering and executive leadership.

Michael devoted 26 years of his professional life to The Torrington Company. His work took him across the country-serving territories in South Bend, Indiana; Detroit, Michigan; Houston and Dallas, Texas-before returning to Torrington, Connecticut as National Sales Director. He continued his career with TB Woods in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania for another 13 years. There he served as National Sales Vice President and later as President of TB Woods Canada. Throughout his career, Michael was known for his strategic insight and steadfast leadership.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael was a man of deep Christian faith. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church in every city where he lived. In Houston, he was a founding member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in 1975 and played an instrumental role in building the congregation's house of worship in 1982. After returning to Houston in 2006 with his wife Linda, they rejoined Christ the Servant Lutheran Church where they worshipped for over 28 years collectively. Michael helped plan the church's 50th anniversary celebration and remained deeply involved until his passing. His commitment to faith and community left a lasting legacy within the congregation.

Michael cherished time spent with family above all else. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Linda Saltzman Iversen; daughter Michelle Iversen Jeffery; son Andrew William Iversen; grandchildren Elizabeth Jeffery Fontenot (Cameron), John William Jeffery (Tiffany), William Case Iversen, Andrew Trey Iversen, and Michael Blake Iversen; great-grandchildren Miley Rose Fontenot and John William Jeffery II; brothers Lee Maschmann (Kristie) and Matt Maschmann (Debbie). He was preceded in death by his parents William Gladstone Iversen and Elizabeth Julia Hewitt, and daughter-in-law Christy Cotta Iversen.

Michael found joy in many pursuits outside of work and church. He was an avid golfer and studied the game with a deep passion. He actually scored a round below his age when he was 73 years old. Earlier in life he was a multi-sport athlete where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track where he later went on to compete at the collegiate level. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed sharing these interests with others. Perhaps most dear to him were the moments spent attending his grandchildren's activities-whether cheering from the sidelines or coaching from the field-and any gathering that brought together family and friends, and always with Linda by his side. He also enjoyed photography, barbequing, and collecting firearms, bourbon, and watches.

A memorial service celebrating Michael's life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, located at 2400 Wilcrest Drive, Houston, Texas 77042. Flowers and/or donations of rememberence may be sent to Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in his name.

Michael Hewitt Iversen will be remembered for his positive unwavering faith, enduring love for family, and dedication to every endeavor he pursued. His positive presence, kind nature, gifted storytelling, and uplifting smile will be missed by all.

Mike was an awesome guy with an impressive smile that lit the room. Once, I listed the many attributes of Linda and Mike flashed that smile and said, I know. I´ll miss Mike but I´m grateful for the time that I knew him.

Mike had a heart as big as Texas, which is where our families became close friends through Mike and Danny´s work for The Torrington Company. Those days are long gone but Mike, Lynn, Michelle and Andy have always been amongst some of our most favorite friends and gave us so many lovely memories. God bless you all as you grieve for your soul-mate and "dad". We grieve with you.

Mike, Linda and I were all in the same grades in highschool. And although we "ran" with different people during those years, it's been fun reuniting some through Facebook. From the pictures, Mike still had that contagious beautiful smile, and I'm sure his family and friends will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers of sympathy to Linda, and all of his family. Sincerely, Diane and Bob Baxa

My time with Mike was much too short. He became my next door neighbor about 5 years ago here in Del Webb Sweetgrass. We connected immediately primarily because of our common liking of good bourbons which we enjoyed sharing with each other while sitting on our patios. Mike enjoyed sharing his family as we attended many sporting events of his grandsons. Mike and I are small town Midwesterners he from Nebraska me from Ohio, Big Ten vs the Old Big 8. I soon found out that he was the fraternity brother of one of my best friends at Kohler Company the Sigma NU chapter ate Georgia tech. My friend had passed before this was discovered by Mike acknoleged knowing Frank although Frank was several years his senior. Our career paths were also very similar both spending several years in Canada, me with Ford Motor, he with Torrington. He was a good man. loved his family more than anything and was everthing you would want in a friend. I shall miss our patio chats and Mike very much. God bless and keep Linda.

Heaven gained a truly remarkable man. Big Mike was THE best sports grandfather and a great friend. The Alpe´s are grateful for his influence and the blessing to share memorable sports seasons with Mr. Iversen. Big Mike had a gift. Whether it was his sincere handshake or pat on the back or encouraging words, Big Mike provided hope and heartfelt support for his grandsons, their teammates, and families. I looked forward to talking with, and seeing Big Mike´s trademark smile each football game. That smile of his was special! He loved those boys (players), his family, friends, and made our community a better place to live. Loved him. You could see Christ in and through Big Mike.

May I offer my best wishes for the family of Mike. I would like to say that he and I came from different sides of the track in Hebron, however, when it came to basketball and baseball we were the same; eager participants. Later, as we conversed via facebook, we did share the same conservative values. RIP my long time friend.

What a blessing it was to first meet Mike in Del Webb Sweetgrass. Over the years he has proudly taken me to some of his Grandsons ballgames and also proudly taught me how to drink/appreciate bourbon whiskey (39 samples, when I quit counting). I in turn even stood in the middle of Main Street of Hebron, Nebraska (not many of his friends can say that). So here´s my final toast in memory of Mike.
