Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2024.
Michael John "Mike" Kovalchick, 80, of Tigard, Oregon, passed away on April 30, 2024. He was born on April 25, 1944 in Sagamore, Pennsylvania.

Mike was known for his hard work and dedication to his family. He was very proud of his heritage, and cherished family gatherings and the traditional food that was prepared.

His love for lawn care started at an early age. Mike had the "greenest of green thumbs," turning every property into a showpiece that was the envy of the neighborhood. He also had a passion for fishing, which took him to many nearby lakes, and enjoyed fishing off the pier in Santa Barbara, CA.

Mike's athletic prowess in high school led to his induction into the Plum High School Sports Hall of Fame in Pennsylvania in 2014. His love for sports continued, belonging to various golf leagues over the years. He was an avid Penn State and Steelers fan, and enjoyed going to Pittsburgh to see a Pirates game.

Mike proudly served in the Army from 1965 to 1967. After his military service, Mike had a successful 30-year career as a Production Supervisor. He obtained a Metallurgical Certificate from the Technical Institute of Pittsburgh and an Associate Degree from Penn State University.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 180 in Milwaukie, OR, and an Auxiliary member of the VFW Post 3425 in Tualatin, OR

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sherry, his son Michael (Chelsey) of Lake Oswego, OR, his daughter Natalie of Charleston, SC, and his grandchildren Lassen, Sevens, and Logan. Mike is also survived by his brother Dennis (Kathy) Kovalchick, sister Michele (Jim) Kelly, niece Kerry (Jim) O'Leary, nephews Lange (Rebecca) Palmer, Jim (Kim) Kelly, Patrick (Nicole) Kelly, Chris Kovalchick, and Kevin Kovalchick. He was preceded in death by his father, Mike Kovalchick, and mother, Helen Koban Kovalchick.

He will be forever missed by his family, whose memories include his love for the holidays, family trips to amusement parks, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He worshipped at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

In remembrance of Mike, a donation may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, for the Bootleg Fire Recovery in Oregon, where trees will be planted or the Disabled American Veterans Foundation.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on May 30, 2024, to honor and remember Mike.
