Michael Lafranchise Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 30, 2007 to Jan. 2, 2008.
LAFRANCHISE, Michael "Mike" Raymond On December 25, 2007, Michael Raymond Lafranchise of St. Albert passed away peacefully after a courageous struggle with cancer at the age of 62 years. Mike is survived by his loving family, his wife of 37 years, Marilyn; daughters: Carrie, Michelle (Jason) and Renee (Vincent), family friend: Mona; grandchildren: Meghan, Madison, Joshua and Parker; sisters: Irene (Tom) and Simonne (Ed); as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Remi and Lena. After a very successful and rewarding business career, Mike enjoyed his leisure time with his loving wife Marilyn at their longtime home in St. Albert, and on various excursions in their RV. Mike also enjoyed gold panning adventures stretching from the Yukon to the southern States, and many trips on his Harley. Although his roots were in St. Albert, his wings took him to sunny Arizona where he enjoyed many rounds of golf, traveling into Mexico, and hosting friends and family at his home there. No matter where he resided he was happiest when surrounded by his loving family -especially the grandchildren, and never far from his side was his constant companion, Sammy, his little dog. While I didn't solve all of life's mysteries, there is one thing I can say I made my choices and right or wrong, I lived my life my way. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Albert Catholic Church, #7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert on Thursday, January 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Andrzej Stendzina, OMI officiating. To send condolences: www.connelly-mckinley.com Friends who so wish may make memorial donations directly to the Grey Nuns Palliative Care or the Cross Cancer Institute. The tyranny of distance is never so harsh as it is at this time. Our brief visit this summer was all too short, and yet worth the world. Our Uncle Mike the Entrepreneur remains an inspiration. “Don’t just sit there and read about it, get out there and DO it!”, he told me. That’s exactly what he did. He didn’t think it odd to turn a glorified calculator into a thriving business, or to ask Michael Jackson to dinner (because his young nephew was teaching his daughters to moonwalk). He just saw a target and aimed for the bullseye, confident that he was the man to hit it. And he usually did.

Auntie Marlo, Michelle, Renee, Carrie, Jason, Vincent, Mona, Our thoughts and prayers are with you even though we can’t be.

Marilyn
We are away out of the country with the Scotts, and just learned of Mike's passing. Our deepest sympathies go out to you and we are so sorry we can not be there in person for you. We always enjoyed socializing with you and Mike. Our thoughts are with you and Mike may you be at peace and enjoy the big car shows up there with the big guy.

I too played hockey with Mike and we shared the odd pop after the match as well. Mike always had a laugh for you. Marilyn, please know we thought Mikey was a good one. (He was one I could stop on a breakaway!) My heart goes out to the girls too. CHEERS
