More than 600 friends and family joined together for the service at St Philip Neri's RC Church, Mansfield, which preceded burial at the town's cemetery of retired police officer Mr Michael Anthony Paul Lee (55), of Mansfield.
His body had been received into church overnight ahead of a requiem mass conducted by parish priest Fr Philip Ziomek.
Born at Glenbrohane, County Limerick, Eire, Mr Lee moved to Mansfield when he was a few months old, andwas educated locally at St Philip Neri's and St Bede's schools.
Joining Nottinghamshire Police as a cadet in 1970 at the age of 17, Mr Lee worked for many years as a local beat officer in the town's Eakring Ward, retiring five years ago. Soon after retiring he returned to work at Mansfield Police station in the Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Intelligence Unit before leaving due to ill health.
He enjoyed walking his pet labradors, Jack and Sam, watching all sports, especially horse racing and his favourite football team Manchester United FC. He also enjoyed going for a drink in the evening with his friends, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and, in particular, going on holiday to Devon and Cornwall with his wife and children.
Mr Lee, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, after a year-long illness leaves his wife, Mrs Catherine Lee, three daughters, Michelle, Sarah and Rachel, and his seven- month-old grandson Aidan.

Thank you.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all friends, family and my dad's ex-work colleagues, for their many kind words, love and support over the past 2 months. In fact it's dad's 2 month anniversary today, hard to believe.
Dad was a wonderful man who is and will always be dearly missed, but it's lovely to hear from all the people dad knew and to hear just how much you also thought of him.
Thank you again to everyone.
Love Michelle, Cath, Sarah, Rachel and all our family.
