Where does one begin? The last time I saw Michael he was so full of life, and filled with so much hope -his beautiful blue eyes glistening. We talked at great length, sharing a lovely bootle of Australian red wine.
He taught me so much about Judaism, and so much about Faith! He even talked about us visitng Israel together.....
I was so touched to read that he passed away in the Holy city. May G-d bless him, and keep him, May G-d make His face to shine upon him, and be gracious unto him. Grant him eternal rest O Lord.

I had the great privilege of knowing Michael when he served as Assistant Rabbi at Temple Beth El in Chicago. His death is a terrible shock and loss. My deepest sympathies to his beloved mother Shirley, his sister Heidi, and everyone who loved him.

I can't even begin to explain what a loss this is for everyone- for family, friends, but also for those who never got the chance to meet Michael- the children that never had a chance to be bar mitzvahed by him, the couples that won't get the chance to be married by him, the mourner that won't be blessed to have Michael spend the time to comfort them in their time of pain. I was fortunate to have Michael in my life for all of these things, as well as many other wonderful and painful times. We have all lost someone very, very, special this week. My most sincere condolences to Shirley, Heidi, and Jo Ann.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

It was with profound sadness and shock that I learned of Michael's death. We were best friends in 1964 and travelled to Israel in 1965 with a BBYO mission, spending 10 weeks there. His enthusiasm and zest for life were infectious and he enriched the experience for everyone. I believe that it was around this time that I first heard him say he wanted to become a Rabbi. Of interest, we saw a performance of Fiddler on the Roof in Tel Aviv (in Hebrew) and then saw the Broadway version on our return to New York. The following year, he asked me to attend his confirmation at Temple Emmanuel, which was my very first exposure to Reform Judiasm! We went our separate ways following High School; I became a Surgeon and Michael achieved exactly what he said he would become- a Rabbi, and very obviously a well respected and loved one at that. My condolences to his family, loved ones and congregants.

Words cannot convey how sad I feel about Rabbi Levenson's passing. He was a gifted and brilliant rabbi whom I feel privileged to have known. He brought his own special light to the world and I will be ever richer for having known him and what he taught me about Judaism, spirituality, and life. My heart goes out to JoAnn and his family. He will be dearly missed.

Rabbi Levenson was the founding Rabbi of Congregation Shir Shalom in Buffalo Grove, IL. He was an inspiring speaker who always gave you food for thought and promoted thinking outside the box. He turned the key and opened the door to our involvement in the Jewish community. We will be forever grateful for his inspiration, knowledge and courage.
Thank you for being our Rabbi and our friend.

Rabbi Levenson was the first rabbi I worked for as a keyboardist in Reform liturgy. He was also my first practical and professional contact with Judaism. His knowledge and ruach were a tremendous inspiration. I remember him with the greatest fondness and grieve that he was taken from us so early. May his memory be a blessing.

I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Rabbi Levenson's mother and sister.
Michael taught me much about the human condition, the strengths and weaknesses of man and the constant struggle for spiritual and emotional balance and peace in our lives.
I shall miss him.
