Michael Lohrey

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) H. Lohrey. He was 76.

Mike was Born in Klamath Falls, OR to Robert and Peggy (Weybrant) Lohrey and raised in Lake Tahoe, NV. Mike was known for being a passionate skier, fly fisherman, and hunter. Some of Mike's many happy places were fly fishing the Rogue River, pheasant hunting in Montana, antelope hunting in Wyoming or a black diamond run at Heavenly Valley, Tahoe.

As a dedicated public servant Mike touched a great many lives through 46 years of leadership, management and training with the US Forest Service. After attaining a BS in Forestry/Watershed Management and an MS in Forest Hydrology and Forestry, Mike started his career with the USFS in 1970 as a hydrologist and Forest Supervisor. From there he moved into Incident Command, Area Command and trained others in Incident Command both within the USFS and with Organizational Quality Associates, Inc. As an Incident/Area Commander Mike's leadership included many fires all over the nation such as Biscuit Fire and Cedar Fire. Other assignments of note include World Trade Center, Hurricanes Ivan and Rita, and recovery of the space shuttle Columbia. Special Assignments included teaching incident command in Lebanon, India and Sri Lanka.

Mike will be deeply missed by his wife Teresa Bright, his daughter Jessica Lohrey and her partner Remington Walker, countless friends, family, and co-workers. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Cindy. He is survived by his sister Michelle Lohrey and his niece and nephew Khate and Joe Mitchell. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Zorro.
