Michael McCaffrey Obituary
Born in Lancaster, N.H., he was a graduate of Lancaster High School and studied for his undergraduate degree at St. Anselm College and the University of Ottawa. From 1963—1965, he served in the Army Infantry. He received his masters in 1969 from the University of New Hampshire and his doctorate in Education Administration from Boston University in 1974.
Dr. McCaffrey began his teaching career in 1965 in Groton, Vt., and his administrative work at Whitman public schools as assistant superintendent.
He was superintendent for Rockport public schools from 1978 to 1983 and was named superintendent of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District in 1983, where he loyally served for 18 years.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Donna E. (Gandin) McCaffrey; five children and their spouses, Mary and George Lavoie of Yarmouthport, Patrick and Kecia McCaffrey of South Dennis, Catherine and Sean Brewer of Marstons Mills, Elizabeth and Stephen Giordano of Eastchester, N.Y., and Melissa and Ross Brennan of Dennis; two sisters, Susan Burrill of Wolcott, Vt., and Shannon Tibbitts of Wolfeboro, N.H.; 12 dearly loved grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He will always be remembered for his strong Catholic faith, his devotion to education and his unbounded love for his family.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth on Thursday, March 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 27, at St. Pius X Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery in Yarmouthport.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Education Foundation for Dennis and Yarmouth Inc., P.O. Box 522, South Yarmouth, MA 02664, or to Lahey Clinic, c/o Ann Delier, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.

Mike was my best friend while serving in the Army in Munich. We spent hours solving the problems of the world, but I lost my notes along the way. We once travelled from Munich to Rome in '63 VW and stared on our back at Michelangelo's masterpiece and concluded he was underpaid. Lost contact with Mike after my release from the Army. I am sad of his passing, but very happy I knew him. Good travelling my friend.

Dear Donna & Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Dr. McCaffrey's passing. I will always treasure the confidence he had in me while I was at Wixon. He had a profound influence on my professional career and modeled what an excellent administrator should be. When I think of Mike, I think of someone who understood the priorities of education and was not afraid to stand up for them. He and his influence on the D-Y community will be sadly missed.

My sister Eleanor was kind enough to relay the sad news of Mike's passing. Mike was a Yankees fan and we'll forgive him for that. I had a couple of good conversations with him at the LHS re-union last summer, the last was when he was surrounded by his wife, daughters and grand-kids. We'll miss his ever-present sense of humor.
