Michael McQueen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2025.
Michael Charles McQueen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on December 10th, 2024, at the age of 64.

Mike grew up in Yakima, Washington, where he graduated from Davis High School in 1978. He went on to pursue his passion for aviation at the University of Alaska - Anchorage, earning a degree in Aviation Administration. Mike's career of 34 years at Alaska Airlines was defined by his unyielding loyalty and work ethic.

On August 21st, 1982, Mike married the love of his life, Candi, beginning a remarkable journey together that spanned 42 years. Their relationship was something to be admired and aspire to-a true testament of unconditional love, unwavering support, and a shared commitment to family. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Ashley and Travis, and delighted in the joy of their grandson, Roland.

Mike had a deep passion for life's adventures, especially those that involved the great outdoors. As an avid cyclist, alongside lifelong friends, he completed the grueling Seattle to Portland (STP) bike race 13 times, as well as mountain biking the entire Maricopa trail, a testament to his determination and love for a challenge. Summers were spent waterskiing, traveling, and camping with his family and their close-knit group of friends, making memories that will be cherished forever.

All who knew Mike, were aware of his unique sense of humor. His quick wit and playful banter were exceeded only by his obsession with competition. Whether it was a card game, a bike race, or a friendly debate, his competitiveness was always front and center. But his love for competition wasn't always just about winning; it was his way of teaching important life lessons-about perseverance and finding joy in the journey.

Above all, Mike was a man of integrity, kindness, and dedication. He was always ready and willing to help anyone. His legacy will live on through the many lives he impacted. His warm smile, generous heart, and youthful spirit will be deeply missed.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Candi; his children, Ashley (Jon) Grindel and Travis (Josephine) McQueen; his grandson, Roland Wane McQueen; his mother, Shirley Cannon; and his sister, Cynthia McQueen; in-laws John and Patricia Wane, Barb (Tim) Fortier; Dave (Carrie) Wane; LeAnn (Dave) Follett as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Mike's family would like to thank all those who have shared in his journey, offering their love and support. He will always be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest and inspired others to do the same.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held on July 19th, 2025 at Entiat City Park. Please contact Travis McQueen for more details.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Step By Step Family Support Center below, which supports causes that were close to his heart. If you choose to donate, please add "In honor of Mike McQueen" to the comments section.

I just now found out about McQ´s passing. I will always have fond memories of working with Mike, being invited to his retirement from AS, and the fact that he ALWAYS called and left a vm on my birthday. May you now rest in the loving, merciful arms of your Savior. Much love to Candi and all the family.

Mike McQueen... Gone too soon! I already miss his smile, competitive spirit, and zest for living each day to the fullest. His love for young people was so contagious. He loved kids from newborns to us old ones who would even tube, ski, and kneeboard with him. Mike and Candi would teach kids to water ski and when the kids were successful, they got to sign the water skis. There have been so many names of the kids, they needed to start a second set of skis.

From the beginning of our friendship, forged over some yellow towels, to our many summers spent together in Entiat, Mike was always there to lend a hand, joke, and laugh. It was in the small things that you knew Mike cared so much about his friends and family. I loved to watch him as he would get the kids jazzed for a water balloon fight. Most of all, I will remember Mike because he loved life!

I feel so blessed to have had an Uncle like Mike who poured into his family. One of my favorite memories with him takes place at Camp Candi (Entiat). The water was always best for skiing in the mornings however no one woke up that early on purpose. One morning uncle Mike really wanted to ski so he changed all of the clocks in the motorhome to show later in the morning to encourage me to get out of bed and start my day. It wasn't until we got in the car to go get a donut that I realized he had completely fooled me and it was in fact 6 am and not 8 am. Needless to say Uncle Mike got company skiing that day, and I still get many laughs out of his little prank. I'm thankful for the memories we share, all his love, and the laughs he provided.

Mike, you are so loved and will be terribly missed. I have so many memories, you have been in my life since I was so little. I don´t remember my life without you in it. A random one from probably when I was 9 or 10 was who could hold there breath under the water longest in mom and dads pool. Of course I never won but I got close. :)
Thank you for loving my sister so fiercely. You will always be to me my brother not brother in law. Here´s to you and all the waves, cuts and bike rides you are keeping yourself busy with up there. You lived life to the fullest. Love you.

The first time I met Mike was at his Mother´s(Shirley) home! My thought of him was "a fine young man".Since that time I also had the pleasure of being with him and Candi. I always will have beautiful memories of both of them!
