Mike was my fav male cousin...who rescued me from my townhome when it was potentially in the line of fire in 1991 when the Oakland/Berkeley Hills firestorm destroyed thousands of Oakland /Berkeley hill homes! Although our family home was destroyed, I was lucky that my home did not become in danger. Mike was may savior....always there to help!! God Bless You, Mike! We miss you!!

I got my heart transplant shortly before Mike, and he came and visited me in the hospital and we had a wonderful chat. Then just 3 years ago, we reconnected at a virtual heart transplant reunion. It was great to talk with him then! So glad he got the extra 22 years - he certainly used them well.

Mike was a great boss, kind and caring. He loved his staff, family and all who he served. He was a pleasure to work for and went out of his way to help those who needed his catering services. He was always a happy guy who loved Cheryl and always had a smile on his face. I looked forward to working with the both of them.
I am so sorry for your loss

Our sincerest condolences to you Cheryl from Steve and Mary Anne Kolda. My fondest memories of Mike are these two, his loyalty to the class of seminary students he met in high school and his eagerness to provide the sports activities to those of us who were less than elite athletes. At the alumni days which he catered and that honored his class mates he made sure we had the best food and first dibs on the line. He also saw in his seminary days that some guys who weren't so elite as athletes, had a chance to play too. So he created a league for us. It lifted many spirits to be one of Mir's Marauders.

I had the privilege of looking after Michael in the Heart Failure Program at Stanford. Occasionally I have been fortunate to look after some very special individuals. Michael was one of these individuals who taught me a lot about generosity and compassion. What a wonderful life he lived.

In 2016, my wife Julie and I were at a cookery school in Tuscany, Italy from the UK and met two lovely ladies called Cheryl and Linda We also met a bloke called Mike. It´s not often this happens in life but there was an instant connection between us all. This was particularly apparent when one evening everyone had gone to bed apart from Mike and Julie and I. Mike was telling us the story about his heart transplant. We couldn´t believe what we were hearing. Here was a man who had gone through so much but he wasn´t in any way complaining or looking for sympathy, in fact quite the opposite. We are so sad we didn´t know you longer Mike but will remember the time we did spend with you forever.

Mike was quite a force. At the seminary, he established Mir's Marauders, an intramural program for those of us who fell into the totally uncoordinated to just barely mediocre category in sports. His zest for life was amazing.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike in Tuscany in early 2016 and within minutes knew I had met one of life´s gentlemen.
Such an honourable decent chap and his love of Britain and our Royalty was utterly endearing. Every visit to Mike´s home we were greeted with a humungous Union Jack fluttering side by side with the Stars and Stripes. I have so many wonderful memories of Mike but one that brings a smile to my face is when we were visiting Windsor castle and Mike patiently queued along with lots of children just to proudly have a photograph with the Queens guard.
RIP dear friend

First of all I want to say this was one of the best written obituaries I´ve ever read, great job Cheryl.
Mike was a one of a kind who was always giving his time to family, friends and community. I will miss our chats on facebook, we were both born in 1946, we both graduated in 64, we both married in 1976, we both had one kid ( girl for Mike boy for me)
I have been praying for you since you went into the hospital for a better outcome, but the Lord had bigger plans for you, Mike I will continue to add my prayers for your family and friends to get through this difficult time my God bless them all. RIP my friend until we meet again.

I did not know Mike for very long however, since the day I met him, he was friendly and soft-spoken and we had a common interest in Hot Rods. We met at Pete Paulsen`s ranch at a Hotrod Party car show. However, I had seen his cars for years before that, Mike and I shared the same T-shirt with our Hot Rods on it, every time I would see him he would greet me and we would chat. He is sorely missed.

In 1991, the Oakland/Berkeley Hills experienced a firestorm that was not contained destroyed homes and caused death to 25 residents including a police officer who was trying to save a child who also died. Who called me and asked if I wanted to evacuate? Mike!!! At first I declined his offer, but later called him back. He drove his Miraglia Catering van to my Oakland Hills townhome and we loaded what I felt was valuable. At the time I had a cat Sasha who also joined me. Although our family home was destroyed, my neighborhood was safe. I stayed overnight and the next day I went to the school where I taught in Oakland. I will forever be grateful to Mike!! He also knew that he was my favorite male cousin (cugino!) . Rest in peace....
