Michael Moriarty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2021.
Michael Francis Moriarty July 25, 1956 - January 31, 2021 Michael F. Moriarty, 64, passed on Sunday morning, surrounded by immediate family after courageously battling cancer for almost 3 years. Michael was born in Boston to the late Robert Moriarty and Marie (Mercadante) Moriarty. He was raised in Stoughton Massachusetts where he excelled at sports including karate, baseball, basketball and football. He also loved all things electronic. Michael is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 41 years, Paula (Sharkey) Moriarty, his daughter Erica (Moriarty) Heal and her husband Joshua, his son Brian Moriarty and his wife Lindsey, 4 grandchildren – Aubrey (12), Katelyn (8), Liam (3) and Ana (1) all of Abington Massachusetts. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Moriarty and his wife Karen and his brother Kevin Moriarty and his partner Patti, his brother-in-Law Charles Sharkey and his wife Laurel, his best friends Anthony Cali and Roberta Lipsitz. Michael has many cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends that will miss him dearly. Michael graduated from Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School with a major in Electronics. He then earned an Associate's degree majoring in Communications Electronics from Grahm Junior College and later received his Bachelor's degree in Business from Northeastern University. He retired from a long-time career of 37 years starting as an Electronics Technician at Hewlett Packard and then working his way up to the Director of Quality and Regulatory for Philips Corporation in Andover. He was an active member of his church, The United Church of Christ in Abington, where he served on the Stewardship Committee and Board of Trustees as well as the Investment Committee. In his earlier years, Michael was a member of Toast Masters. He spent years coaching his son's Little League, Soccer and Basketball teams. Michael was very interested in finance, and he earned his Stock Broker's license. He was always available to help friends and family understand the complicated world of finance whether it was doing their taxes, creating a budget, planning for retirement or understanding their investments. Michael greatly enjoyed traveling for both work and leisure. His favorite spots have been Germany, Korea, Caribbean, and Florida where he has been known to open and close the Disney parks. He especially loved cruising to tropical islands with his wife Paula and would never miss an opportunity to head out for a good meal with family or friends. His biggest enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren. He looked forward to the running and laughter of the little ones each weekend. He was able to spend many years on "bus duty" or the "dance class chauffer" for his tiny ballerinas. His grandchildren will best remember him for his love of ice cream, great dance moves, and being the "toy doctor"! Michael supported several charities over the years and most recently established the Moriarty Scholarship at the UCC in Abington. Because he was a life-long learner, Michael created this fund to assist young members of his church in perusing higher education. Michael was full of life, laughter and entertainment. He was truly the heart of his family and will be deeply missed. All services will be private due to COVID-19 but live-streamed for viewers. I was sad to learn of Mike's passing. Mike and I worked together at HP for at least 20 years. Some of my best memories of working with Mike involved travelling to hospitals to install Patient Monitoring systems. Mike was a very knowledgeable and enjoyable companion on these trips. He had a great sense of humor.

I send my condolences to Mike's family and prayers to Mike. Rest in peace my friend.

I am very saddened reading Mike has passed away. I worked with Mike several times during my career within the Quality Group. He was one of the engineers who was helpful, courteous, a great listener, and professional. He would always be the one I would go to for expert advise.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Mike.

Michael, you will be sorely missed! I have so many great memories with you throughout our childhood. We were cousins of the same age and shared many family gatherings growing up. As adults, we reconnected and you became one of my best friends. My most cherished memories are when we would meet for lunch every month and spent hours talking about anything and everything. I know my life is so much better for knowing you and having you in my life. I can't say enough how much it meant to me.

So sorry for the loss of Michael. We all grew up together and our families would picnic and travel down the Cape together. Since we were all the same age we all had a blast together. May he join his folks for a good card game
