Michael Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 13 to Mar. 14, 2024.
Michael David Murphy, 54, passed away March 10, 2024 peacefully in his sleep. He was born August 27, 1969, in Phoenix, Arizona to Cheryl and Thomas Murphy. He was the baby of the family and enjoyed being the center of attention since the day he was born.

He spent his early childhood years in north Phoenix and his teenage years in central Phoenix. He was a graduate of Washington High School and attended the University of Phoenix. Michael was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Michael excelled professionally, always helping others get what they needed in life - a job, a car, an education, even clean drinking water. His talents were varied and immense, but there were none greater than his ability to make people happy - to laugh and smile.

His greatest joy in life was his three daughters, McKenah, Alexys and Hayden. He loved them "to the moon, the monkey, and the tree, mucho, mucho." He was so proud of his girls and encouraged them to make their dreams come true. He truly lived, loved, and laughed with them every minute they shared.

Always a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan, Michael recently recruited two new fans when his grandsons Nixon and Oliver were born. He loved these little boys so much and planned to do all the things a Gramps would do with them, provided it did not involve any spiders and snakes.

Michael is survived by his former wife, Angie Clarke, and their children, McKenah Salazar (Nick), Alexys Murphy, and Hayden Murphy; his grandsons Nixon and Oliver; his father Tom Murphy (Mariann); his siblings, Kim McWaters (Chris), John Murphy (Sue) and Staci Candrea (Nick); his nephews, Nick, Kameron, Michael, Matthew, Tanner and Brock; his grandnephew Tillman and his grandnieces Reese and Taylen. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Cheryl Bond and his grandparents Jean and John Eynon, and Della and Wayne Midyett.

A celebration of life for Michael will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Palmcroft Church, 15825 North 35th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85053.

It has been a long time, but I will never forget how much Mike made me laugh at WHS and in the years that followed. Like everyone who knew him, I too will miss his infectious warmth and generous spirit. Thank you for sharing your light with those who were blessed to have known you. My deepest condolences to your family.

Working with him at MMI. Finding out that we were both Dallas fans. One thing I really remember is Mike, Cameron and myself pooled together our money and bought an ENTIRE brick of scratch off lottery tickets trying to win the big prize. We didn't hit the big one but at least we broke even. LOL

Memories with Michael, Murph, Magic Mike, MurphBoys, MurphDog or Murphtastic... whatever he was calling himself that day were always filled with smiles, laughs and positive energy. Mondays after the Cardinals beat the Cowboys were especially my favorite moments, no one could make excuses for the Cowboys poor performance against an inferior team better than Michael.
Whatever he was going through, or others were going through he was always there to lighten the mood and make you feel good. He will be truly missed. My condolences to the family and prayers for your peace in this difficult time. ~The Heller Family

We were co workers for about 6 months , during that time I was pregnant so I saw him everyday for the majority of my pregnancy, and everyday as soon as I would walk in, he would start talking to my belly "hi baby Michael your mommy picked such a good name for you" and It started every morning with a laugh and an eye roll.
My deepest condolences to your family

The first time I met Murphy was after a meeting at work, we were out front of the building laughing and joking around before we started the rest of our day. I knew after talking to him for about 30 seconds I liked him instantly and we were going to be friends. I'm so sorry for your loss, he will be greatly missed.

Micheal was always so full of life and possesed a magical quality that could put you in a good mood by just being around him. His contagious laugh and infectious smile made you forget about your troubles. My own 3 daughters attended daycare and elementarty school with Mike & Angie's daughters and we all became fast friends. I often times would pick up all of the girls from school and take them home. Michael would usually be there as soon as I drove up. He always had a smile and a funny story. I would sit outside chatting with him and the girls would go in the house or play in the yard, and the time would pass by so quickly that 15 min. would turn in to an hour in the blink of an eye.
One memory in particular stands out. My ex-husband, Mike, Angie and our 5 girls at the time... (Hayden wasn't born yet), went to my families vacation home in Payson for the weekend. We decided to visit this unique animal rescue near us. As we were driving into it, Michael said, "How much you want to bet we'll see a one-eyed pig running around." Not 5 minutes later we were walking around the property...and there it was... a cute potbelly pig with one eye. Laughter erupted, and a very pregnant Angie thought she would pee herself we laughed so hard! Laughter contined throughout the day and weekend with games, expired food (again more laughing) and walks to the pond. That was one of the most fun weekends that I remember fondly, with so much fun, friendship and love.
Micheal was someone that truly made you feel comfortable in his presence and would leave you with a happy heart.
Whenever I think of him, one word will always come to mind. Laughter! He made the world a better place as he helped bring 3 beautiful, talented and amazing daughters into this world whom he loved and cherished.
He will be truly missed!
Rest in Peace Laughing One, the Lord is getting a good one!
Much love,
MJ
