Obituary

Michael Herman Nikle Sr., of 207 N. 11th St., Grand Forks, ND, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Michael was born August 11, 1921, at Grand Forks, ND, Son of Andrew Nikle and Thressa (Burkhardt) Nikle. He married Jeanette E. Varnson on September 14, 1945, in Crookston, Mn. She preceded him in death in 1999. He entered the Army during World War II and traveled the world. He worked for Hugo's before and after his tour in the Army for a total of 61 years. He had many job discriptions during this time. His greatest enjoyment was meeting and dealing with the customers. He was on the Christanmens Bowling League for many years. He always enjoyed gardening---and had the greatest green thumb---showing off his beautiful flowers. After retirement his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always helping his family, friends or strangers! He is survived by Daughters: Alona Harper, Darlene Stevens (Nick Gonzales), Lori (Paul) Peterson; Sons: Michael Jr. (Jeannie), Ronald (Jeanine), Oral (Elaine) and Danny; Brothers: Pete (Lucille), John, Grand Forks, Jerome (Sharon), Flint, MI; Sisters: Gladys Belgarde, St. John, ND, Elizabeth (Albert) Mesa, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: John Henry, Henry, Benhart; Sisters: Josephine Belgarde, Mary Romberg, Eleanor Schenke, Theresa Stevens, Son-in-law Morall Harper, Brother-in-law John Belgarde. Honorary Casket Bearers will be all his Grandchildren. Funeral Services: Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Visitation: Friday, March 17, 2006, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at Amundson's and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Military Honors: East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157 & East Grand Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3817. Interment: (TBA Spring 2006) at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks. I would like to give out my condolences to the Nikle family. You guys are all in my thoughts and prayers. I can rememeber Mike Sr. as a great man and also he was a very funny person. He was also a very good teaser and joker too. I hope the best for all of you Nikle families.
