Dear O'Laughlin Family,
So sorry to hear of your recent loss of Michael, we have many fond memories of working at Maid of the Mist in the late 1960's. Michael was always full of "joie de vive" and good-looking,too! We all loved hanging out together after working the night shift at Prospect Point. The guest book entries indicate that as he matured; he continued to be a wonderful caring and loving man, leaving us all with a rich legacy of the lasting impressions we can make on one another's lives. Blessings always, Leeanne Higgins Sarkees (Richmond, Virginia)

Mr O was the best teacher I ever had. He was the biggest kid in our 4th grade class. He brought a humanity and realness to the classroom that was different. He thrashed us in Chess, would lead a spit ball fight, and always had the largest squirt gun. You haven't lived until Mr O drilled you during a kickball game. We all wanted him to have our class picture in 1977 but only one was selected to ride the dash of his camaro to keep the evil spirits away.
He wasn't all fun and games and inspired many of us to go on to higher education.
Wishing all his family and friends peace and a glimpse of the Joy he left us with.

My prayers for your family on your loss.
My brother was a part of the Boces program, I remember how Dr. O always made sure that his students never felt less than any other student at Barclay. They walked the halls proud because of his kindness.
He will be missed.

Linda, Colleen, Mike Jr.
I have never had the pleasure of meeting you because after high school and college Mike and I had very little contact since our lives took different paths. My heart sank when my good friend Eric Sharp emailed me to tell me of Mike's passing. Mike, Eric, my cousin Billy and I plus several other friends grew up together in Niagara Falls and we attended, Maple Ave. School, North Junior High and Niagara Falls High School together. Mike was one of the most fun loving people I ever knew. We called him Mole and it seems we spent countless hours playing sports together and just hanging out. We used to like to go to his house because he had such beautiful sisters. Please share my condolences with them as well. I am proud to learn of Mike becoming a PhD.and of his successful professional career.
I cannot imagine the pain you feel at his loss but please know that many people many of whom you have never met are praying for you and for our dear friend Mike. I know he is in Heaven with the Lord and is probably joking around with my cousin Billy. The promise of eternal life gives us hope that we will one day be reunited with those we love but see no longer. I pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort you at this most difficult time. May Mike's memory be eternal in our hearts. God Bless you all.
Sincerely,
Doug Fadel

To the family of Michael O'Laughlin.
You have my deepest sympathy and condolences. Mike and I went to Maple Ave. grade school together and we played basketball, at one point in time his Dad was our coach when we played in the police booster league. For some reason we drifted apart after grade school. It has been so long I didn't even know that he had become a Doctor until I received an email from a friend of mine Susan Stempian. What a shock this was. Mike was a great guy and great basketball player. He will surely be missed.

Linda, Colleen, and Mike Jr.,
Words alone cannot begin to tell you the feeling I got when I heard of Mr. "O's" passing. He was a great friend and teacher who was always there to talk when I would swing by as I finished my paper route (White house on Adams St.) No matter when I stopped we would always have great conversations and sometimes words of advice that many have still stuck with me to this day. Like, "Get as much education as you can, It will never go out of style." I remember popping in one time and it happened to be Colleens Birthday, so I helped blow up what seemed like a million balloons, and good conversation. I regret that in recent years I have not kept in contact as I had in the past. Whether it was Mike, Mr. O, Dr.O Or Hey "O" there was always a man who was kind, sincere, and a great friend and leader that had an impact on my life that will remain forever. Thank you Mr. O for the gifts that you have given me in life that will be my memories of you until the day I meet you again in Heaven.

Mr. O...what can I say....he was much too bright of a person to stay here with us. He was a shining star called to a higher place. He was my 4th grade teacher. I still laugh with friends while sharing fond memories of all his crazy antics in class. I am now a teacher myself partly due to his influence...huge shoes to fill. There will never be another like him. He will be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with Linda and family. Dave Miller Brockport NY

Dr. O served as a second father to myself and the rest of mikes close friends. I'll never forget days of swimming in the backyward that turned into a cookout and sleepover at night because we never wanted to leave their place. Some of my best childhood memories were when Dr. O would come and pick all of us up and head down to Kendall High School for a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. It was always great showing up with Dr. O because you were given the royal treatment showing up with their beloved superintendent. He would take us into the meeting room that was attached to his office and draw up plays for us to run. He made us feel like professionals with the way he was so excited for the tournament, but it was always great after because win or lose you could see how much fun he had just watching us play and enjoy ourselves.
So to Mrs. O, Mike, Colleen and the rest of the O'laughlin family - I send my deepest sympathys to all of you and wish I could be there during this very sad time. Dr. O has been in my thoughts and prayers for the past week and I will continue to think of him and always keep his memory in my heart.

Dear O'Laughlin Family:
I was saddened by the news of Mike's death, especially at such a young age and in the prime of his life. Mike and I were childhood pals, growing up in the DeVeaux neighborhood of Niagara Falls and hanging out with the Doug Fadel, Fred Fadel, Eric Sharp and others. At age 17, Mike and I had our first summer jobs together, working in the Maid of the Mist gift shop at Prospect Point. Several years later, it was my father, Judge John Marsh, who administered the oath of office to Mike's Dad when Mr. O'Laughlin became mayor of Niagara Falls. Although I lost contact with Mike over the years, my admiration for Mike and the whole O'Laughlin family has not waned. Fond memories will last forever.
With deepest respect,

To the O'Laughlin Family,
During my time at Clarkson, I came in contact with many families and even had a fair share of sibling combinations as advisees and students, many of whom I had the pleasure of getting to know on personal level. However, the O'Laughlin Clan stands out as my favorite, because of the special connection we established. I will always remember Dr. O's warm smile and firm handshake, and the pride he exuded over Colleen and Mike's academic, personal, and professional accomplishments. Jodi and I were honored to be invited to both graduation dinners, and we join all of you in your current feelings of loss, but we also remember the incredible enthusiasm that Mike brought to his life. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of both being a student at Kendall while Dr O was principal, and working for him as a substitute teacher when he was superintendent at Kendall. He had a genuine interest in his students and always knew of and commended us for our accomplishments inside the classroom and in extra-curricular activities. Whether I had won an essay contest or an athlete had scored the winning goal, he was aware of it and ready with praise. He ran a tight ship, but he was loved and respected. Whenever he was in the high school building while I was subbing, he made a point to seek me out and say hello. Even as a sub I felt valued and appreciated. His life speaks to me as a testament of what one person can do to aid and encourage others and, twenty years later, his commitment to the lives of children inspires me still.
