Michael Painchaud Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 8, 2024.
Michael Paul Painchaud, Topsham, Maine's beloved local bean brewer and finance whiz, embarked on his final adventure on March 10, 2024, at the spry age of seventy-five. Born just in time to catch the tail end of the '48 spring blossoms, Michael was born on March 31st.
His legacy is carried on by his offspring: Cheri Painchaud (along with her son, Takoda) of Topsham, and Michelle Painchaud, from Oregon. Michael's 3 sisters-Lucille Painchaud of Ashville, NC, Paula Menzies Prospect, CT and Jacqueline, from Topsham, ME along with his adoring nieces and nephews-Sally, Brian, John, Katie, Jesse, and Jazmyn of CT and Carl and Catlin, and Jacob, from Topsham, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and a couple great greats who will continue to share tales of one of their favorite family mavericks.
A Spartan through and through, Michael scored his Bachelor of Science at Michigan State University. He worked in phlebotomy at Pontiac General Hospital and after a few years went abroad to France where he studied pre-med courses and learned the native language simultaneously.
With a a keen interest in finance and after working with EF Hutton in New York city, Michael launched his own finance company, Market Profile Theorems Inc., and he dedicated 33 years to this business, providing valuable investment research and focus on style management for U.S Equities.
Maine beckoned, and twelve years ago, Michael answered, bringing his talents to Grampa's Garden Inc. and, more recently, percolating joy in a co-owned coffee and tea shop in Brunswick. An avid collector, Michael took great pride in his extensive collection of Starbucks Memorabilia. The shop displayed some of this great collection.
A sports aficionado, Michael never lost his love for the game-any game-especially if it involved his beloved Spartans. He even quarterbacked for the "Freaks" in '72, tossing pigskins for a cause and scoring points for St. Jude Children's Research, earning the benediction of the late Danny Thomas. Also known as the Bull Bowl in the 70's. He gifted both his sister and niece to the track camp at MSU. And let us not forget his solo bike trek from Michigan to California. Later in his 50's, he dribbled his way into the hearts of the WAC senior basketball league in Seattle!
A traditional memorial service will be held to honor Michael's life on April 21, 2024, at The Abbey in Brunswick from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Michigan State Leadership program, which reflects Michael's passion for empowering future generations. givingto.msu.edu

My memories of Michael, the 3 big O's. Oreos, and Old Orchard Beach. It was a great time seeing him smile so big to get his feet into the ocean and let the sand surround them. You are already missed my friend, be happy and hugs to you.

In the few years I had known Michael, he always made bad days into good ones and he always was so welcoming to everyone that came into Grampa´s Garden. I would regularly come to Grampa´s Garden to get Coffee or Tea and we would talk a lot and I felt very close with him. He will be deeply missed.

I had the privilege of working with Michael at Grampa's Garden. His warm, friendly, and attentive personality were a delight and treasure that made working fun and satisfying. He always asked my opinion and made me feel valued and heard. His love for excellence and efficiency were so inspirational; I am forever grateful to have had the opportunity to know and be blessed by Michael.

Our prayers are with Michael's family that they find comfort knowing he is at peace.

We knew Michael from a professional basis that grew into a personal relationship. Michael was always such a generous person. He loved to be gracious and giving. If we were having dinner with him, he would make certain everything was over the top in terms of taking care of us. He was also so proud of his kids and of Grampa's Garden. In the financial world, having someone who was always honest and truthful counted for more than always being 100% right. No one is always right. Michael was always honest and truthful and in that way he stood out as being special.

We honor his memory, his care and his love. We are grateful.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family. His sister Paula always talked about her older brother with such love and respect.

Michael was my second cousin. Since he was quite a bit older than me, I didn´t see him as often as his siblings Jacqui, Paula and Richard. My son and I did, however, get to spend some time with Mike during a "cousins" vacation in Maine back the mid 90´s. Jacqui and family rented some beautiful beach houses for us and we had such a great time. The photo I´ve attached is from one evening when we all played board games. Mike was very kind, always quick to smile and lots of fun to be around. I recall him playing with the kiddos on the beach tossing a frisbee or a football. I´m glad I have these wonderful memories of Mike from that trip. My condolences go out to his family and friends. I know he will be missed very much.
