Michael Penney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2025.
Michael Dewayne Penney born September 3,1958 in Roanoke, North Carolina died unexpectedly on March 5, 2025. He is the father of Christina Vanneste (Lenny), Jennifer Mitchell (Dennis), Makayla Noel (Jacob), Michael Penney and Mitchel Penney. Mike was blessed with seven grandchildren. Brother of Deborah Kinney (Darrell), Ken Penney and Sherri Yokom (Tim). Predeceased by his wife Lisa, his parents Harold and Evelyn and his older brother Harold Jr. (Butch). Mike Penney was a Senior Lead Machinist at Kerr Screw Products for over forty years. He was an adopted member of the Kerr family and a dedicated employee. He was very proud of his work. To know Mike Penney is to know a guy with a big heart. As an example, a few years back Mike met a stranger who was homeless and cold and gave him his winter coat and had him over for Thanksgiving dinner that night. This is because he never met a stranger. He struck up conversation with everyone he met and he really held people in high regard. My Dad found meaning and sentimentality in the world that most people wouldn't notice. He wanted to write a book called "The Brown Bag Lunch" because he was so inspired by a mentor from long ago that would pack the same lunch in a brown bag everyday and take the bus to work. This mentor was a simple, humble and inspiring man with so much to teach. What my Dad failed to realize was that in many ways he himself was the man with the brown bag lunch. He taught us so many things (if you know Mike Penney you know that he can do it the proper way and he will show you how)! He taught us to appreciate people, and to be grateful to God, and to love each other and to love nature ( we had to keep looking up at the stars on all those camping trips)! So now, Dad, when we look up at those stars we will pick the one that stands out against all the others and we will think of you and how lucky and blessed we are to have had you. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever." Revelation 21:4

Mike you left us too soon. You are the best brother anyone could ask for. I love you and miss you so much. You talked a lot lately about wanting to leave a legacy for your children. Well, that's something you don't have to worry about because you really did. I love you and I am really proud to be your sister.

Although we've been unable to keep in touch, Katrina and I wish to send our condolences and prayers. I was able to meet Mike, just once, and it was enough to leave a lifelong impression. The world lost a good man and heaven called home another for the greeting party. Prayers.
