Michael Perea Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2011.
Michael Perea May 4, 1940 - Sept. 28, 2011 Resident of Culver City. After a Courageous 3 year battle with throat cancer, Michael passed away peacefully with family by his side at his home in Culver City. In those 3 years, Michael bared his pain with complete tolerance and patience. Never did anyone hear him express complaints or negativity. He is survived by his loving sister Martha, his dedicated love Sharyn, his three children Mikie, Theresa and Carlos, along with four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and other family and friends who were blessed to know him.

Michael and his sister Martha, were born to Ralph Perea and Claudia Placencia. His mother later remarried giving Michael and Martha three more siblings. He was raised in the greater Los Angeles area. He attended Hobart Elementary (LA), St. Vibiana Catholic Elementary (LA), Standford Elementary (South Gate), South Gate Jr High and Venice High School.

He started working at the young age of 16 years old at a local gas station. Later on he began tree trimming for a landscaping service. By the time he was age 28, he became a truck driver. He committed himself to truck driving for nearly 40 years, retiring at age 65 from Ralph's market.

Michael had a nickname and it was Pappy. Quickly that name was turned into Happy Pappy. Why? Because that's what he truly was, always happy. He was adventurous and enthusiastic about life, his loved ones and his hobbies. He had a great deal of passion for hunting, sailing, fishing, and gardening, just to name a few. His favorite vacation spot was Hawaii. He was always thinking of others, very kind and generous. With a man so full of life and love, he will always be very missed by all of his loved ones, but most importantly never forgotten........We love you Pappy!

Now that the dust has settled, for me the real sadness has kicked in. I was lucky enough to have grandpa Mike as my father in law for the last eight years of his life. We became very close in those eight years. He was nothing but a thoughtful, kind, generous, happy angel to our family. I will forever love you and hold you close to my heart.

If all of us could have the positive attitude and kindness that he displayed then the world would be a better place.
It was my privilege to have cared for him.

He was so kind and brave though his battle with cancer. He appreciated so many little things- what a great life's example. I miss his smile.
