Dr. Michael Joseph Porter Sr., PhD

Michael J. Porter, Sr. PhD, 77, of New Bern passed away on July 01, 2016 in Cebu City, Philippines. Dr. Porter was born in Battle Creek, MI, on April 4, 1939 and married Nancy Lou Monroe of Battle Creek in 1959. He was a dedicated and beloved therapist who helped thousands of people overcome life's challenges. He is survived by nine children: Michael J. Porter Jr. (Annmarie Oliveira) of New Bern; Michele Osborn (Russell) of Battle Creek, MI; Patrick K. Porter, PhD of New Bern (Cynthia), David Porter (Heidi) of Daphne, AL; Walter Porter (Nancy) of Phoenix, AZ; Sarah Christensen (Jeff) of Virginia Beach, VA; William Porter of Sacramento, CA; John Porter of Phoenix, AZ; and Fran Porter-Spelgatti (Daniel) of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by two sisters, Teresa Corcoran (Brian) of Fairbanks, IA and Louise "Casey" Youngblut (Ron) of Gilbertville, IA, nineteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. His beloved wife, Nancy, parents Walter Stanley and Sara Sally, brothers Patrick and William, and sister Amy Noverr (William) preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at Water's Edge Restaurant 1 Marina Dr. in New Bern, NC on July 30, 2016 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Healthcorps, a national non-profit organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz that gives teens tools to improve physical and mental health so they can learn to live more productive and happier lives.
