Michael Ricker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2024.
Jacksonville - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Terry Ricker, who left us unexpectedly on February 15, 2024. Born in Knoxville, TN, on November 2, 1943, Michael Terry lived a life full of adventure, love, devotion, and service.

A proud veteran, Michael Terry served three tours in Vietnam, a significant part of his life that shaped his deep love for his country. He was a true patriot, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a devout Shriner. His dedication to his nation was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a wildhearted man who cherished his close friends and never met a stranger. He faced challenges with the same fiery passion that defined his adventurous spirit. While he wasn't perfect, his genuine and heartfelt approach to life and people left quite a legacy.

He had a passion for fishing, working on old cars-especially Volvos-and riding fast motorcycles. His family was his world, and he loved them with a fierceness that was reflected in the tight, almost painful hugs that we miss dearly.

Throughout his life, Michael Terry lived in various places, including Tennessee, Tampa, and Orange Park, FL, before eventually settling in Jacksonville, FL, where he made a home with his wife, Gail, and raised his children. His career was as varied and as bold as the life he lived-he first got out on the open road driving long-haul semi-trucks, transitioned to selling cars, and later returned to the road, driving trucks again with Gail after he put a ring on it and later worked at Anheuser-Busch in the brewing department until retiring. These roles allowed him to see the country on his own terms, embracing every moment of the journey.

His knowledge was vast, and he could talk to anyone about any topic. He had the best laugh of any human on the planet, a laugh that brought joy. His deep faith in the scriptures led him to engage in meaningful conversations, often tackling the hard topics with those he came across. He made a significant impact on everyone he met, and his absence is felt deeply.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail; his son, Michael Aaron Lee Ricker; his daughter, Jennifer Venecia Ricker; his brother, Christopher Ricker; his sisters, Linda Ricker and Cheryl Ricker Roberts; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Ricker and Gladys Inez Butler Ricker, and his brother, Marshall C. Ricker.

A brief ceremony with full Navy honors will be held to recognize his service to his country. Immediately following the services at the cemetery, family and friends will gather at Azaleana Manor in Orange Park, FL to celebrate the extraordinary person he was-a loving father, devoted husband, cherished friend, and so much more to the family that loved and valued him.

Michael Terry will forever be with us in our hearts and minds, his dynamic spirit and boundless love continuing to guide us. Rest in peace, knowing that you are deeply missed and eternally cherished.
