Michael J. Rowland

Michael Jay Rowland, age 65 of Sherwood, Arkansas died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born January 20, 1944, to his late parents Kenneth V. Rowland and Thelma Priscilla Mae Jenkins in Little Rock. Michael retired from Teletype Corporation after 33 years of service, worked 11 years as a part-time Deputy for the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, and worked as a Fire Chief for 12 years at East End Fire Department. After retirement, he became a private investigator. In addition, he enjoyed trains, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and was a member of the East End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Shirley Rowland of Sherwood; two children, Gregory Allen Rowland (Rikki) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Susan Elizabeth Zabiela (Edward) of Shirley, New York; three sisters, Marcela Grimmett of Ferndale, AR; and Diana Woolem (John) of Alexander, AR; Helen Moran (Ed) of Bryant, AR; three brothers, Kenneth Rowland of Little Rock, AR; Gary Rowland (Jackie) of Ward, AR; and Larry Rowland (Sandy) of East End, AR; five grandchildren, Josh, Gregory, Sofia, Edward, and Harley; and one great-grandchild, Noah. Funeral services will be 2:30pm Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 North, Alexander, AR (501) 455-1067 with Brother Don Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Funeral Home.
