Michael M. Rubey

1942-2023

Michael "Mike" M. Rubey, of Rancho Santa Fe, California, passed away on May 20, 2023, due to a series of strokes. A private service was held on May 26, 2023. Mike was born on July 21, 1942 to Nathan and Sylvia Rubey in Washington, D.C.

Mike grew up in D.C., attending Calvin Coolidge High School and graduating in 1960. He was a member of the Honor Society, manager of the football team and in the golf club. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and Finance, graduating in 1964. He later attended American University in D.C. to work on his MBA.

Mike moved to California in 1974 and never looked back. He lived in Beverly Hills and Rancho Santa Fe, embracing the different pace and lifestyle each place had to offer.

Michael's love of business and finance earned him a very successful career, where he met and worked with many interesting people. His love of travel enabled him to combine work with pleasure, meeting friends and business acquaintances all over the world.

Mike had a few hobbies, but some would say that they weren't your normal hobbies. In the 1980s, he decided to buy a few race horses and race them at his nearest tracks, Del Mar and Santa Ana. He was proud of his latest endeavor (at that time) and was happy when he made it into the winner's circle a few times.

Michael loved his family and they were the most important part of his life. He leaves his sister, Margie, her two daughters (his two nieces) and their husbands, Janelle and Bryan, and Rachel and Cory. But his most favorite loves were their children (his grand-nieces and nephews): Katie and Connor, and Kade and Camryn. They were very special to him and he was so proud of them.

His knack for numbers was ever present and he enjoyed wishing his friends and family happy birthdays. He would call his grand-nieces and nephews every few months to remind them they were 8 3/4 or 10 11/12 years old. He loved watching sports, whether football, basketball, or baseball. He would call and text them during games and loved to "bet" with them, always giving them the upper hand and telling them to establish a line of credit with their Moms for payment.

Mike had many life-long friends, some since his college days. He was so good at keeping in touch over the years and they all will miss those phone calls and visits.

He will be missed by so many for his generosity, his humor, and his intelligence. His family and friends will forever have lasting memories of good times, good travels, and good conversations.
